Cincinnati Reds star Elly De La Cruz showed extraordinary strength and heart when he stepped up to the plate just one day after the death of his sister\u2014and delivered an emotional home run that stirred the hearts of fans across the nation.<\/p>\n

Facing the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, De La Cruz hit a powerful two-run homer off pitcher Jameson Taillon in the sixth inning. As he rounded the bases and crossed home plate, the 22-year-old shortstop pointed to the sky and formed a heart with his hands\u2014an unmistakable tribute to his sister, Genelis, who had passed away the day before following a long health battle, according to Dominican news outlet Z101 Digital.<\/p>\n
