Ohio State\u2019s football team has officially received its championship rings, and they include one surprising detail. A video<\/a> from Josten\u2019s detailed the symbolism of the ring\u2019s design, which includes the winning score engraved on one side, confetti from the winning championship game encased inside the ring, as well as 34 stones to represent the stadium\u2019s side views and the 34 points scored in the winning game. On the inside band of the ring, however, lies a golden cross which \u201csymbolizes how players leaned on their faith throughout the season.\u201d Players received three rings at this season\u2019s spring game, a ring for making the College Football Playoff (CFP), one from the CFP for winning it, and a championship ring from Ohio State. The Columbus Dispatch<\/em><\/a> released images of the players receiving their rings.<\/p>\n

The team\u2019s faith was a key talking point of the season, with around 60 students being baptized. \u201c”It makes it feel real. Been a long time coming for these rings but a combination of a lot of hard work, sacrifice and love when I see them,\u201d said<\/a> the team\u2019s quarterback, Will Howard.\u00a0 Howard<\/a> has been known for his faith on the team and thanked God after Ohio State defeated Notre Dame for the championship. \u201cFirst and foremost, I’ve got to give the glory and the praise to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,\u201d he said at the time. Howard is now preparing for a professional football career after being drafted<\/a> by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 6th<\/sup> round (185 overall).<\/p>\n

\u201cMan, they’re big, and they did a great job with them,\u201d head coach Ryan Day told<\/a> 97.1 The Fan\u2019s Bishop and Friends. \u201cI don’t know how much bigger these rings can get. You have to drag them around. But really cool to see. You think about getting rings, and they made three rings for us \u2013 one for the national championship game, one for the CFP and then one for the bowl games. The [national championship ring] in particular has all kinds of different cool features to it,\u201d he added. \u201cBut it’s really become like a trophy. I don’t think the guys really wear their rings, but it’s a trophy, and it’s more the symbolism of what we all dreamed of this year. To see that actually in person, the guys did a great job.
