Spectators at a German soccer game were stunned by a Satanic prayer led by one of the teams. \u00a0FC Kaiserslautern, known as the \u201cRed Devils,\u201d took on Fortuna D\u00fcsseldorf at the Fritz Walter Stadium in Kaiserslautern, where they displayed the choreographed prayer. Members of the crowd formed a massive red pentagram that included a banner in Latin which read \u201cExaudi Nos, Lucifer, Et Surge Ex Abysso, Sume Animas Nostras,\u201d or \u201cHear us, Lucifer, rise from the abyss and accept our souls.\u201d The display was then followed up by a huge devil emerging from within the pentagram and a banner stating, \u201cAd Lucem Nos Trahe, Orbem Mundi Regna, Surge ex Flammis et Appare,\u201d meaning \u201cDraw us to the light, rule over the world, rise from the flames and appear.\u201d<\/p>\n

Coach Markus Anfang praised the chant, calling it a \u201cgoosebump moment.\u201d \u201cIt was simply fun to be here in this stadium today,\u201d he said<\/a>. Catholic journal Die Tagespost<\/em><\/a> criticized the display as ignorant of the realities of the devil. \u201cIt would be absurd to think that tens of thousands of genuine Satanists gathered there,\u201d the journal stated. \u201cOne might rather assume that the fans involved don’t actually believe in the existence of the devil and therefore don’t understand what could be offensive or even dangerous about their actions. For most people, the devil is about as real as Rumpelstiltskin or Harry Potter.\u201d It added, however, that Christians cannot go along with this idea of \u201charmless fun.\u201d \u201cChristians are aware not only of the real existence of the devil and hell, but also of the fact that the decisive battles people must fight in their lives are of a spiritual nature.\u201d<\/p>\n

The display was criticized on X with many stating the crowd didn\u2019t seem to understand they were summoning demons. \u201cSoccer team in Germany called the Red Devils are literally summoning their \u2018Mascot\u2019 (the Devil) and chanting for it to \u2018take their souls,\u2019\u201d wrote one account.<\/a> \u201cParticipating in a Satanic ritual unknowingly.\u201d \u201cSatan is thriving in Germany,\u201d wrote another account<\/a>. Dr. Taylor Marshall, a former Episcopal priest who is now a Catholic commentator, criticized the display on his podcast. \u201cThis isn\u2019t just like \u2018Hey, Satan\u2019s kind of cool.\u2019\u201d he said.<\/a> \u201cThis is calling out, invoking Lucifer from the abyss and saying, \u2018Take our souls.\u2019 This is really sinful.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
