Is President\u00a0Trump<\/a>\u00a0a Christian? The commander-in-chief has repeatedly answered affirmatively over the years, explaining his faith allegiance, praising evangelicals \u2014 and even heralding a past relationship with the late Rev. Billy Graham.<\/p>\n

In fact, Mr. Trump\u2019s father,\u00a0Fred Trump<\/a>, was reportedly a big fan of the popular evangelist, once taking his young son and family to see him preach.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy father said to me, \u2019Come on, son\u2019 \u2014 and, by the way, he said, \u2019Come on, mom. Let\u2019s go see Billy Graham at Yankee Stadium.\u2019 And it was something very special,\u201d Mr.\u00a0Trump<\/a>\u00a0once\u00a0said<\/a>\u00a0while reflecting on seeing Mr. Graham when he was a child. \u201cFred Trump<\/a>\u00a0was a big fan.\u00a0Fred Trump<\/a>\u00a0was my father.\u201d<\/p>\n

But these public proclamations haven\u2019t stopped people from engaging in rampant speculation and debate, pondering whether Mr.\u00a0Trump<\/a>\u00a0truly lives out Christian tenets, questioning how he squares past statements and behavior with biblical truth \u2014 and even accusing him of using the Christian base for political gain.<\/p>\n

At the core of the discussion is the question of whether he has accepted the core of Christian doctrine \u2014 that Jesus Christ is the son of God who died for the sins of humanity, calls humans to repentance, and requires a radical death to self.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, no one knows Mr.\u00a0Trump\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0heart and any definitive claims are speculative. But, regardless of where he stands, we know he\u2019s most certainly heard the aforementioned message. In fact, \u201cDuck Dynasty\u201d star Phil Robertson has openly\u00a0shared<\/a>\u00a0a personal story about how, prior to the 2016 presidential election, he uniquely broke down the Christian Gospel for Mr.\u00a0Trump<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mr. Robertson\u2019s surreal story has been making media rounds again in recent weeks, but he first shared it with me during a 2016 interview on \u201cThe Church Boys\u201d podcast, explaining how he took out a paper and started drawing pictures to help Mr.\u00a0Trump<\/a> visualize Jesus\u2019 sacrifice on the cross and resurrection.<\/p>\n

\u201c[I discussed] God becoming flesh \u2026 dying for the sins of the world, and, in his case, I said, \u2018Dying for your sins, Donald, all of them, I figure there\u2019s a lot \u2014 what do you think?\u2019\u201d Mr. Robertson said. \u201cHe didn\u2019t disagree with me.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to explaining details about Christ\u2019s death and resurrection, Mr. Robertson said he scribbled \u201can arrow coming down out of heaven \u2026 God becoming flesh, a cross, where Jesus took away the sins of the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Considering Mr.\u00a0Trump\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0power and sway, Mr. Robertson\u2019s boldness is commendable. But the \u201cDuck Dynasty\u201d star has never been one to seal his lips about his beliefs, with his family consistently sharing their beliefs about God with the masses.<\/p>\n

In fact, the Robertsons have, more than any other TV family, extended themselves to intentionally use their fame as a primary vehicle to spread their faith \u2014 and that\u2019s something the reality TV patriarch made clear.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr.\u00a0Trump<\/a>\u00a0has heard the gospel from my lips,\u201d Mr. Robertson told me. \u201cI owed him that. I loved him enough to tell him.\u201d<\/p>\n

There\u2019s more to the story, too. Mr. Robertson\u2019s son Jase recently revealed some other details surrounding his father\u2019s interaction with Mr.\u00a0Trump<\/a>, explaining how his dad further stressed the importance of Mr.\u00a0Trump<\/a>\u00a0understanding the faith message.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s like, \u2019Hey, you are not getting any younger \u2026 there\u2019s people after you. He was like, \u2019Somebody will try to kill you,\u2019\u201d Jase Robertson recently\u00a0told<\/a>\u00a0Allie Beth Stuckey, noting the shocking nature of that statement in light of the attempted assassinations last year of Mr.\u00a0Trump<\/a>. \u201cIt is actually really profound when I think about that.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for the paper on which Mr. Robertson mapped out the Gospel, he handed it over to Mr.\u00a0Trump<\/a>\u00a0and delivered yet another pointed message to the businessman-turned-politician.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo he handed the paper to President\u00a0Trump<\/a>\u00a0and he\u2019s like, \u2019You, you need to move on that. This needs to be the core of everything you do,\u2019\u201d his son recounted.<\/p>\n

Mr. Robertson\u2019s children have been sharing the story of late since it was announced that their father is battling a form of Alzheimer\u2019s along with other health complications.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s all a simple act but one that shows Mr. Robertson\u2019s true focus. When he had the eyes and ears of one of the most powerful men in the world, he chose to spend that time not glorifying himself or speaking of temporal things, but of extending love and care to a fellow human being.<\/p>\n

Mr. Robertson\u2019s aim was to ensure Mr.\u00a0Trump<\/a>\u00a0knew the essential information he requires to spend eternity with his Creator \u2014 and that\u2019s notable. Rather than being blinded by power and prestige, he was fixated and focused on a bigger mission.<\/p>\n

And there\u2019s a lesson in that devotion for us all, as we navigate our own journeys and ensure friends, loved ones and acquaintances walk in ultimate truth.<\/p>\n
