(<a href=\"\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/blogs\/idolchatter\/2006\/07\/head-butt-seen-round-world.html\" target=\"_new\">Zidane was kicked out, and Italy went on to win<\/a>.) And Zidane revealed the gist of what the insult was which provoked the him to ram his head into Materazzi\u2019s chest.<\/p>\n<p>Zidane, appearing on French TV, <a href=\"\/\/sportsillustrated.cnn.com\/2006\/soccer\/specials\/world_cup\/2006\/07\/12\/bc.eu.spt.soc.france.zidane.ap\/index.html?cnn=yes\" target=\"_new\">said Materazzi insulted his mother and sister in the worst possible way<\/a>: \u201cI would rather have taken a punch in the jaw than have heard that,\u201d Zidane said, adding that \u201cI apologize to all the children\u201d who were watching Sunday\u2019s match.<\/p>\n<p>But Zidane also said he didn\u2019t regret the ugly incident because doing so would\u2019ve meant that \u201cMaterazzi was right to say all that.\u201d Materazzi later again denied insulting Zidane\u2019s mother.<\/p>\n<p>So, if you believe Zidane, then it was a \u201cyour motha, and your sista\u201d incident. And those can be harsh. I know my brothers on two occasions were ready to beat someone up for insulting me. (They\u2019ll deny it now, but they were ready to do the deed!) But still, was it worth getting kicked out of the World Cup final match at such a crucial moment?<\/p>\n<p>For Zidane, the answer is obvious: It was not worth it to turn the other cheek.
