Mickey Mouse and Bluey are strengthening their partnership.<\/p>\n

BBC Studios and the Walt Disney Company announced they are teaming up to create an animated movie featuring Bluey, the beloved Blue Heeler puppy who has captivated young audiences worldwide.<\/p>\n

The film will be produced by Ludo, the Australian studio behind the “Bluey” TV series, with financing from BBC Studios, which manages global distribution and merchandise rights. Disney, which holds the license for the series on Disney+ and cable networks, plans to release the movie in theaters in 2027.<\/p>\n

Joe Brumm, the creator of “Bluey,” will write and direct the movie. “I want this to be a memorable experience,” he said in a statement. The original voice actors from the show will return for the film. Amber Naismith, known for her work on “The Lego Movie” and “Happy Feet,” will produce the movie.<\/p>\n

In a separate social media post, Mr. Brumm mentioned he would take a break from the TV series, which is entering its fourth season. “Stepping away while the show is so successful might seem strange to some,” he said. But at the moment, I find it challenging to connect authentically with that four\u2014to six-year-old mindset and write truthfully.”<\/p>\n

He clarified, “This is not an announcement that the show is ending, but rather that my current focus will shift to the movie.”<\/p>\n

Disney infrequently releases animated films it doesn\u2019t own. The last time it did so was with Studio Ghibli\u2019s The Wind Rises in 2013. However, Dana Walden and Alan Bergman, co-chairs of Disney Entertainment, wanted to ensure “Bluey” remained a part of Disney. “Bluey” has become a massive hit, with over 50 billion minutes streamed in the United States in 2024, making it the top streaming show, according to Nielsen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
