Wade in 2022. \u201cI find it very sad, at 76 years old, I had to see Roe v. Wade taken away. Two years ago, when I realized the consequences of women\u2019s rights that are vanishing, I watched a lot of news, and I was like a sponge \u2014 it just went into me,\u201d she told <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/stevie-nicks-discusses-new-song-the-lighthouse-abortion-access-exclusive-8719365\"><em>People<\/em><\/a>. She detailed the process of making the song, waking up one morning with the urge to write, something unusual for her, until she had drafted a long-form poem. Later adding in some instrumentals, she would eventually come upon the song. \u201cI never redid the vocal \u2014 it&#8217;s an original vocal \u2014 and it&#8217;s taken me two years,\u201d she said. During those two years, the song was passed around by trusted friends and polished while Nicks kept up with a heavy touring schedule.<\/p>\n<p>Nicks herself has admitted to having an abortion in 1979, stating she would have had to leave the band if she hadn\u2019t had an abortion at the time. Her song, \u201cSara\u201d may be inspired after the daughter she believes she might have had had she never had the abortion. There have also been implications that Nicks has had as many as four abortions throughout her career. \u201cAll the stories that we tell about the necessity for women&#8217;s healthcare and the necessity for a safe and legal abortion option for women is absolutely necessary,\u201d she said. She sees herself as a vital part of what she calls women\u2019s reproductive rights. \u201cI have often said to myself, &#8216;This may be the most important thing I ever do.&#8217; To stand up for the women of the United States and their daughters and granddaughters \u2014 and the men that love them. This is an anthem,\u201d she said. The song warns women about losing their power and challenges them to take it back.<\/p>\n<p>Pro-life advocates took aim at Nicks on X. Conservative outlet <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1840382455573889384\">Breitbart<\/a> called the song \u201cAn \u2018anthem\u2019 to child sacrifice.\u201d The Blaze\u2019s Steve Deace shared an article from <em>The Christian Post <\/em>about the song and wrote, \u201cDon\u2019t ever again question why a loving God permits a Hell.\u201d \u201cEvery part of this story is tragic,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BillyHallowell\/status\/1841679573299110189\">wrote CBN\u2019s Billy Hallowell<\/a>, \u201cbut, in particular, the lies she decided to believe about abortion \u2014 and that music and people\u2019s happiness are somehow more important than preserving life.\u201d In a 1990 article with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tampabay.com\/archive\/1990\/06\/21\/stevie-nicks-one-regret-no-children\/#:~:text=After%2015%20years%20on%20the,9%20issue%20of%20US%20magazine.\"><em>The Tampa Bay Times<\/em><\/a>, Nicks noted regretting she didn\u2019t have any children. \u201cI\u2019d like to be sharing all these experiences, and that makes me really sad,\u201d she said. \u201cBut I figure God has a plan, and if I\u2019m meant to have that baby, I\u2019ll have her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fleetwood Mac\u2019s Stevie Nicks is discussing the message behind her new single, \u201cThe Lighthouse.\u201d The song was written two years ago after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v.
