On Sunday, television’s biggest stars gathered at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater for an evening of must-watch entertainment. Hosted by comedic duo Dan and Eugene Levy, the Primetime Emmy Awards celebrated programs aired from June 2023 to May 2024. This year’s ceremony followed the rescheduling caused by the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which moved last year’s event from its usual September slot.<\/p>\n

FX\u2019s\u00a0Shogun<\/em>\u00a0extended its reign over the 2024 Emmys on Sunday night.<\/p>\n

Going into the evening, the hit samurai series already held the record for the most wins by any show in a single year, having picked up\u00a014 trophies at the Creative Arts Emmys a week ago. Sunday night, the acclaimed period drama Sh\u014dgun clinched the award for Best Drama, making history as the first non-English language show to do so. During the acceptance speech, star and new Emmy winner Hiroyuki Sanada spoke in Japanese, thanking the crew and directors for their support of Samurai period dramas. He expressed, The passion and dreams that we have inherited from you have crossed oceans and borders.<\/p>\n

Sh\u014dgun also secured four awards, including individual acting honors for Sanada and Anna Sawai. Sawai, the first actress of Asian descent to win Best Actress in a Drama, dedicated her win to all the women who expect nothing and continue to be an example to everyone.<\/p>\n

Both Sh\u014dgun and The Bear emerged as big winners, each taking home four trophies. The night concluded with a surprise as Hacks won Outstanding Comedy Series.<\/p>\n
