Former Stanford men\u2019s gymnastics alum Brody Malone thanked God after securing a spot on the U.S. men\u2019s gymnastics team for the 2024 Olympics. According to Sports Spectrum, \u201cThe team is comprised of Brody Malone, Asher Hong, Paul Juda, Stephen Nedoroscik, and Frederick Richard, who won the all-around competition at the trials. Together, they will attempt to win a team all-around Olympic medal for the United States for the first time since the U.S. claimed bronze in Beijing in 2008 and a gold medal for the first time since the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984.\u201d<\/p>\n

Malone was uncertain if he would even be able to compete at the trials due to a severe knee injury that forced him to learn how to walk again. NBC Sports reported, \u201cMalone vividly remembered what happened on March 18, 2023, on the high bar, his best event, at a competition in Stuttgart, Germany. His left hand inadvertently peeled off the bar early for his dismount. It sent him flying in the air at a different trajectory than he planned. He landed backward, awkwardly twisting his right leg.\u201d<\/p>\n

The gymnast tore multiple ligaments in his right knee and fractured his tibial plateau, which caused him to have three surgeries. However, that didn\u2019t prevent Malone from wanting to compete at the 2024 Olympic games. After he secured his spot on the team, he credited God for his triumphant return. Malone said, \u201cI just have to give all the glory to God. It\u2019s all Him, and, yeah, it\u2019s all God. So I just want to thank Him for this. I\u2019m just so grateful for everything that God\u2019s done for me.\u201d A month before the Olympic Trials, Malone\u00a0told<\/a>\u00a0Olympics.com, \u201cIt just feels amazing to be able to\u00a0\u2014\u00a0with everything I\u2019ve gone through\u00a0\u2014\u00a0be able to come back and make a comeback as I have and be competitive enough to be on the top again.\u201d<\/p>\n
