Overall, the Oscar ceremony for me was not only predictable – though of course I loved that Colin Firth now has an Oscar- but also rather boring. Can’t say I loved Anne HAthaway and James Franco as hosts and can’t say that any of the bits in between the awards were that funny.
\nBut I did see the irony and the beauty of a ceremony that was supposedly now trying to target the young hip giving us instead some inspiration and wisdom from the senior members of the academy.
\nSpecifically, I am talking about screenwriter David Seidler’s acceptance speech for writng “The King’s Speech.” Seidler, who has had to overcome a stutter of his own, gave us these words to chew on: “My father always said to me, I would be a late bloomer,I believe I am the oldest person to win this particular award. I hope that record is broken quickly and often.”
\nYes, in a business that idolizes youth, one man reminded the A List crowd the rewards of overcoming life challenges and that talent and expereince can only be honed over time.
