Certainly my pick for the most challenging and yet inspiring independent movie of the year has to be the critically-acclaimed,limited release drama “Winter’s Bone.” <\/a>The movie is now available on DVD and I do challange Idol Chatter readers to seek this gritty drama – it’s rated R for language and a couple of intense images- out.Ree Dolly, a teenage girl lliving in the Ozarks doing the best she can to raise her fractured family, is an unlikely hero. In between hunting, cooking for her siblings and dealing with some pretty creepy relatives, the girl resolutely sets about to save the ramshackle place they call home after their dad jumps bail and uses the house as collateral.Rumor has it her absentee father may have been killed, but that doesn’t stop Ree from nosing around for the truth. If there is a still a chance he is alive , she can get him to jail and she can save the house. It’s no easy task as no one in his family cared for him much.Besides,folks in her rural Southern community have their own ways, and most are not willing to help Ree in her search as it would break their mountain code of ethics.Certainly there is no better heroine to be found on the big screen in recent months than Ree and certainly actress Jennifer Lawrence deserves any and all Oscar buzz. And while the nature of generational sin and the cost it takes to break its cycle is not an uncommon theme in the world of indie films,”Winter’s Bone” is a fresh yet searing portrait of one girl’s fight to overcome her family history.If you are interested, here is the trailer.
