We told you earlier this summer about “Secrets of the Mountain,” a family friendly TV movie from faith-based guys led by Brian Wells. It did very well, thanks also to the sponsorship of Wal-Mart, Procter & Gamble and some key individual backers. They’ve since had another movie, “The Jensen Project,” which was also well done.
\nNow, another team is being noticed for bringing a new kind of television to the small screen. And hold onto your cooling fans on this one, because this faith-based material goes deeper into spiritual questions but may not exactly qualify as your typical “family fare.”
\nThe pilot episode of “Footnote” has won four 2010 Telly Awards (given to the best in local and regional television, film and the web).
\nI’ve known co-Producer Phil Cooke for years as well as his great family, and while they are certainly Christians (as are many of the writers and staff), I can tell you that “Footnote” clearly has a storyline that’s meant to push the edges of whats okay to talk about. The award-winning pilot examines pornography in an open-minded way and includes interviews with the “Porn Pastor,” a former porn film producer and a porn star.
\nFuture episodes will tackle the topics of death, homelessness, secrets, anger and marriage. “There are not always happy endings,” says executive producer Amie Cole.
\nThis show sounds like it will really strike home for more mature teens as well as college- and career-age audiences. Parents will certainly want to tune in. Younger teens may “need” the information but i could see how it might be hard to watch.
\nIn any event, Cooke and his team are boldly going after some significant and relevant topics and, for that, I’m grateful. I’ll be looking for “Footnote” in the near future!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
