Tom Selleck didn\u2019t want to become an actor, let alone the star of two hit series, \u201cBlue Bloods\u201d and \u201cMagnum P.I.\u201d In an interview with People <\/em>for their cover story, Selleck revealed, \u201cIt is really the story of an accidental career. I\u2019d never taken an acting class. I had no training, no desire.\u201d He added, \u201cPeople would say, \u2018Oh, he was bitten by the acting bug\u2019 or \u2018He wanted to be a star.\u2019 I\u2019ve never talked that way in my life. I just wanted to get a job and work.\u201d Selleck reflected on his life and career in his new memoir, \u201cYou Never Know<\/em>,\u201d out May 7.<\/p>\n

Selleck told People <\/em>about writing the memoir, \u201cI don\u2019t have the hooks that a lot of people do. I didn\u2019t rehabilitate myself or have this tragic life. I had my own share of certainly ups and downs, but I\u2019ve been very fortunate.\u201d Though he sees himself as someone who \u201cjust wanted to get a job and work,\u201d Selleck said the memoir \u201cis a lot about failing, endless failures.\u201d\u00a0He said, \u201cIf you\u2019re going to get in the acting business, you better get an appetite for it. And I tried to communicate that. Because it was kind of a long road.\u201d<\/p>\n
