Scrabble will release a new version of the game that will be more \u201cinclusive\u201d for Gen Z players and \u201cless competitive.\u201d The new double-sided Scrabble board will still feature the original game for those who want to play the traditional version, but on the flip side, the new game will include helper cards, use a simpler scoring system, and be quicker to play. The BBC reported that the new board, Scrabble Together, will also let players compete in teams.<\/p>\n

The game\u2019s creator, Mattel, conducted research and found that Gen Zers aren\u2019t as competitive as older generations. Gyles Brandreth of BBC Radio 4\u2019s Today reported, \u201cThe makers of Scrabble found that younger people, Gen Z people, don\u2019t quite like the competitive nature of Scrabble. They want a game where you can simply enjoy language, words, being together and having fun creating words.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ray Alder, vice president and global head of games at Mattel, said, \u201cScrabble has truly stood the test of time as one of the most popular board games in history, and we want to ensure the game continues to be inclusive for all players. For anyone who\u2019s ever thought \u2018word games aren\u2019t for me\u2019 or felt a little intimidated by the classic game, Scrabble Together mode is an ideal option.\u201d<\/p>\n
