Singer and entrepreneur Rihanna is being blasted on the internet after appearing as a nun on the cover of \u201cInterview Magazine.\u201d Rihanna appeared on the cover wearing the traditional black and white habit of a nun, but the similarities stop there as she dons a white blouse buttoned down to show her cleavage and a small cross tattoo on her cheek. A video of the photoshoot shows Rihanna groping herself and nearly bearing her breast while make suggestive faces at the camera. The title of Rihanna\u2019s interview in the magazine was \u201cRihanna is Ready to Confess.\u201d<\/p>\n

A number of reactions on social media called the cover out for what one called \u201creligious mockery.\u201d \u201cI\u2019m not even Christian, but you need to take religion seriously,\u201d said another. \u201cOur religion is not your marketing toy like stopppppp this is so annoying,\u201d wrote another. \u201cRihanna mocks Catholics. She\u2019d never try this with Islam. Teach your children not to admire, follow, or listen to morons like this,\u201d wrote conservative commentator Chad Prather. Others commented that Rihanna would never do a similar shoot wearing a hijab, the traditional religious head covering of Muslim women. \u201cShould Interview Magazine and Rihanna try a similar photoshoot with a hijab?\u201d asked one commentator. The Dailywire<\/em><\/a> noted that Rihanna has previously apologized to her Muslim fans after she included a line from the Hadith in one of her fashion shows.<\/p>\n

Rihanna herself has claimed to have been raised in a Christian household. Her interview with \u201cInterview\u201d includes several references to God and God\u2019s will. When asked by interviewer about how many children she wanted to have, Rihanna responded \u201cAs many as God wants me to have.\u201d \u201cI don\u2019t know what God wants, but I would go for more than two. I would try for my girl. But of course if it\u2019s another boy, it\u2019s another boy,\u201d she responded. Rihanna appeared at the Super Bowl visibly pregnant and now has two children. In a 2014 interview<\/a> with \u201cGlamour,\u201d Rihanna stated that focusing on God helped her to stay true to herself. \u201cRemembering what\u2019s important in life and understanding that we are individuals with our own relationship to God, when that\u2019s clear, it\u2019s difficult to be bothered by what people think,\u201d she said. She has also referred to God in her X posts in the past and has referenced Joyce Meyer in her posts.<\/p>\n

Rihanna is not the first celebrity to face backlash for using religious iconography. Singer Sabrina Carpenter<\/a> received backlash for her racy music video filmed at a Catholic church a mass of reparation was performed to cleanse the church afterwards and a priest at the parish was demoted for his role in allowing the video. Another Catholic diocese was outraged<\/a> by the flamboyant funeral held for trans activist Cecilia Gentili.
