As the 2024 election heats up, many pundits are turning their attention to abortion as a key issue after Donald Trump released his official statement<\/a> on abortion. \u201cThe states will determine by vote, or legislation, or perhaps both, and whatever they decide must be the law of the land \u2013 in this case, the law of the state. Many states will be different. Many states will have a different number of weeks\u2026at the end of the day it is all about the will of the people,\u201d he wrote in a statement. He also stated he would not sign a national abortion ban, a promise he made in previous campaigns. It\u2019s earned him the ire of some pro-life groups, who accuse him of flip-flopping. \u201cSaying the issue is \u2018back to the states\u2019 cedes the national debate to Democrats who are working relentlessly to enact legislation mandating abortion throughout all nine months of pregnancy. If successful, they will wipe out states’ rights,\u201d said Majorie Dannenfelser, President of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life.<\/p>\n

Speaking about Trump\u2019s position on \u201cThe View<\/a>,\u201d host Whoopi Goldberg defended the need for abortion. \u201cI want to make sure \u2026 that, if you decide this is what you need to do, I\u2019m going to get behind you, because I don\u2019t know your life, and if you say this is what you need, that\u2019s what I\u2019m going to do,\u201d she said. She also inferred that she did not believe in any term limits for abortion, saying \u201c50 weeks, 75,000 weeks, whatever how many weeks, it\u2019s nobody\u2019s business.\u201d She said it was a decision between \u201cyou, your doctor, and God\u201d and that it didn\u2019t fall under \u201cthe Big Ten,\u201d meaning the Ten Commandments. When fellow host Sunny Hostin pushed back stating some evangelicals belief it falls under \u201cThou shalt not kill,\u201d Goldberg responded by saying, \u201cI think \u2018thou shall not kill\u2019 cannot be used as the block because we allow wars all the time.\u201d She added, \u201cSo there is some conversation to be had there, so either thou shall not kill for everybody, and everything, or we have to talk about all the things you and I have to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Goldberg did not note the nuance with the word \u201ckill\u201d used in the Bible, with some translation using the word \u201cmurder\u201d instead. According to \u201cGot Answers<\/a>,\u201d there are two words used to describe killing in Hebrew: ratsakh and mut. \u201cRatsakh\u201d is the word used in the Ten Commandments and refers to murder, including an even broader definition than English, according to \u201cGot Questions.\u201d \u201cRatsakh also covers deaths due to carelessness or neglect but is never used when describing killing during wartime. That is why most modern translations render the sixth commandment \u2018You shall not murder\u2019 rather than \u2018You shall not kill.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
