A \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d skit told the story of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and featured a Bible verse, leaving one former cast member to wonder if this is the first time the popular sketch comedy show has shared the \u201cGospel\u201d message. An over 4-minute skit called \u201cChurch on Vacation\u201d recently aired on the long-running NBC series, which featured a family of four Catholics from Ohio attending mass while on vacation in Jamaica.<\/p>\n

So far, the skit amassed almost 3 million views on YouTube. The children, played by cast members Andrew Dismukes and Molly Kearney, are less than enthusiastic about attending the 6:30 a.m. mass during their vacation. Dismukes\u2019 character asks his father, played by host Shane Gillis, \u201cDid you have to drag us to church while we\u2019re on vacation?\u201d Kearney\u2019s character asks, \u201cCan\u2019t we skip one Sunday?\u201d<\/p>\n

The father responded by indicating that he would not comply with their requests, saying, \u201cHey, we\u2019re Catholics, OK? I don\u2019t care where we are on Sundays; we go to church.\u201d\u00a0He assured them, \u201cChurch is church, no matter where you are in the world.\u201d The comedy in the sketch stems from the Jamaican accents of the priest and his assistant, as well as the congregation as a whole, while the family of American Catholics stands out and fails to keep up with their customs. The American father eventually begins to use Jamaican vernacular.<\/p>\n

After the priest inquires whether there are any guests in the congregation, the parishioners all look at the American family as if they were out of place. The priest then tells the faithful \u201cabout Jesus and where you can find Him\u201d before breaking into song: \u201cPon de manger, pon de cross, three days later, oh my God.\u201d The priest\u2019s assistant, played by longtime cast member Kenan Thompson, sang \u201cHim not there\u201d as the clergyman asked, \u201cWhere Him go?\u201d The assistant responded, \u201cUp in Heaven,\u201d as the priest said, \u201cthat I know.\u201d<\/p>\n
