In an interview with the Wall Street Journal Magazine, Angelina Jolie opened up about her thoughts on Hollywood and how she is healing after her split from Brad Pitt. \u201cI grew up in quite a shallow place,\u201d Jolie said of Hollywood. \u201cOf all the places in the world, Hollywood is not a healthy place. So you seek authenticity.\u201d As the daughter of Jon Voight, Jolie grew up in the industry saying, \u201cBecause I grew up around Hollywood, I was never very impressed with it. I never bought into it as significant or important.\u201d Jolie also spoke about if she were given the chance to break into the industry now, she probably wouldn’t. \u201cI wouldn\u2019t be an actress today,\u201d she said. \u201cWhen I was starting out, it wasn\u2019t as much of an expectation to be as public, to share so much.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seven years ago, Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt, who she dated for 12 years and was married to for two years. The pair shares six children together: Maddox, 22, Pax, 20, Zahara, 18, Shiloh, 17, Knox, 15, Vivienne, 15. After the divorce, Jolie chose to take a step back from acting to focus on her family. \u201cWe had to heal,\u201d she said of her family. \u201cThere are things we needed to heal from.\u201d The actress and humanitarian shared her feelings on her relationship being public for so long. \u201cSince I was young, people liked the part of me that\u2019s pretty tough and maybe a bit wild\u2014that\u2019s the part that I think people enjoy,\u201d Jolie said. \u201cI\u2019m not the one [who] you want to hear about my pain or my sadness. You know, that\u2019s not entertaining.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her eldest child, Maddox, was adopted from Cambodia. Jolie fell in love with the country while filming “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” and visited an orphanage while she was living in the country. She immediately felt connected to Maddox, who was only seven months old. Throughout the years, Jolie has continued to fall in love with Cambodia, and says that one day she’d like to move there full-time. \u201cIt\u2019s part of what happened after my divorce,\u201d Jolie said. \u201cI lost the ability to live and travel as freely.
