Rapper Lil Nas X is raising some eyebrows after announcing he is entering his \u201cChristian era.\u201d The 24-year-old gay rapper posted a video of himself on <\/span>social media<\/span><\/a>, teasing a new Christian song and referring to God as \u201cFather\u201d in the video. \u201cy’all mind if I enter my christian era?\u201d he captioned the video. He clarified on\u00a0<\/span>X<\/span><\/a>\u00a0that this \u201cChristian era\u201d did not mean giving up his gay lifestyle. \u201cmaking christian music does not mean I can\u2019t suck d— no more. the two are not mutually exclusive,\u201d he wrote. He also made a crude allusion to getting on his knees for \u201cmultiple reasons.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Given that Lil Nas X is notorious for selling \u201csatanic shoes\u201d laced with blood and giving Satan a lap dance in a music video, there were some skeptics. <\/span>Not the Bee<\/span><\/a>\u00a0reposted Lil Nas X\u2019s video with the headline,\u00a0<\/span>Lil Nas X claims he’s entering his “Christian era,” but no matter how many times I watch his new video I still can’t believe it’s not satire<\/span><\/em>. After detailing some of the rapper\u2019s previous odes to Satan, the site declared, \u201cYeah, not so sure you\u2019re looking for God here, at least the God I know. Maybe you’re looking for some sort of pagan god or something? Because the God I know would very much prefer me to leave my sin behind and follow Christianity. And just by your looks alone here I know you haven’t left your sin behind, so this cannot, in any way, be a \u2018Christian era\u2019 for you, Mr. Nas X.\u201d Rapper Tyrese wasn\u2019t having it either, posting to his\u00a0<\/span>social media<\/span><\/a>, \u201cYa\u2019ll gone learn to stop playing with God\u2026 God is not to be played with\u2026\u201d He added, \u201cWe can all change. I get it. But, I feel a way about people making a mockery about Jesus. Do you. [live] your life. Do what makes you happy. But, y’all better stop playing with Jesus out here.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Lil Nas X responded to the criticism, accusing his detractors of singling him out in particular. \u201cy\u2019all see everything i do as a gimmick,\u201d he <\/span>wrote<\/span><\/a>. \u201cwhen in reality im just an artist expressing myself in different ways. Whether I’m a cowboy, gay, satanic, or now Christian y\u2019all find a problem! y\u2019all don\u2019t police nobody else art like mine. y\u2019all hate me because I’m fun cute and petite.\u201d In response to Tyrese\u2019s criticism, he wrote, \u201cThis really crazy cuz all I did was post a song about asking god for hope when you feel hopeless and yall acting like I posted a video of me burning a church down and peeing on a nativity scene.\u201d Other posts on his media address the controversy, including some seductive poses by the rapper as he models for shoes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lil Nas X isn\u2019t the first controversial artist to try to make it in Christian music. So-called Christian artist and drag queen Flamy Grant\u00a0<\/span>ruffled feathers<\/span><\/a>\u00a0after attending the Dove Awards as a spectator. His songs contain explicit lyrics and questionable theological conclusions. He was also recently\u00a0<\/span>invited to perform<\/span><\/a>\u00a0at a Baptist church in Virginia. The church promoted Grant as \u201cThe comedy queen with the blistering voice,\u201d and \u201ca gospel and roots musician from the Bible Belt who will move you, soothe you, help you heal some trauma and always leave you laughing.\u201d Grant has also\u00a0<\/span>reached out<\/span><\/a>\u00a0to Lil Nas X to work on a collaboration for his \u201cChristian er<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
