The worldwide Twilight phenomenon has to have given this television series a massive boost, but one so massive that–what I think is a mediocre, mostly depraved show, fun only for having a strong vampire presence among its characters–could beat out the fabulous four in ‘Sex and the City’? Say it ain’t so.
Yet, recently in “Necks Overflowing With Rivers of Metaphor,” Ginia Bellafonte of The New York Times wrote that, despite how difficult it is to process why “the sanguivorous have become the meat and drink of popular culture at the end of the first decade of the 21st century,” that:
“HBO’s “True Blood” has been credited with revivifying the channel’s fortunes. The Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris, which inspired the series, currently occupy seven of the top 20 spots on The New York Times’s paperback mass-market fiction best-seller list. The show, a mishmash of Flannery O’Connor aspirations and Anne Rice pop blood hunger, threatens to surpass “Sex and the City” as the most-watched series in HBO’s history after “The Sopranos.””

And, the last couple of episodes have been pulling in record numbers of viewers, topping the 5 million mark! Are you one of these five million? And if so, how do you think season two is going to end? (I have my theories.) The finale airs on Sunday, September 13 at 9pm.
<img decoding="async"
