On the “Stuff Christians Like” blog website the other day, “Prodigal” Jon Acuff tries to come up with a “Christian Secular Culture Disclaimer<\/a>“–a boilerplate excuse-me phrase like “Spoiler Alert!” or NSFW (“Not safe for work”) that appears to warn Christians of rough language or sexual content before recommending a mainstream pop culture product. He fails, but in his search he comes up with seven pretty funny ways for Christians to absolve themselves of objectionable secular consumption.
\nMy favorite is No. 6: Pretend the relevance of the entire faith of Christianity hinges on your ability to listen to that music.<\/b> Example: “Sure, I don’t see us playing any Flo Rida during worship anytime soon but unless we know what this world is all about, how are we supposed to communicate with it? Are you saying you want me to be irrelevant? Is that what you’re saying?” But each item on the list is a little peek into how Christians filter, or flim-flam, to maintain their cultural purity.
