According to the film\u2019s cast and crew, \u201cShooting Stars\u201d is more than a sports movie highlighting basketball star LeBron James\u2019 rise to fame. It\u2019s also about genuine friendship, human connection, and the power of mentorship. \u201cStranger Things\u201d star Caleb McLaughlin, who plays Dru Joyce III in the movie, told The Christian Post, \u201cIn this film, we talk about basketball, but I feel like this movie represents life.\u201d<\/p>\n

McLaughlin continued, \u201cBasketball is more than a game. It\u2019s about friendship. It\u2019s about a bond. It\u2019s about community. There are a lot of parallels in this film that people don\u2019t see. Don\u2019t forget about the people that love you and support you because you\u2019re going to need them at the end of the day when all else fails, and your back\u2019s against the wall. You\u2019re going to need that person to have your back.\u201d<\/p>\n

Based on the book of the same name by Buzz Bissinger and James and also detailed in the 2008 documentary \u201cMore Than a Game,\u201d \u201cShooting Stars\u201d shows how James and his childhood friends in Akron, Ohio became the top-ranking high school team in the country, pushing James into superstardom as a four-time NBA champion, the NBA\u2019s all-time leading scorer, and a two-time Olympic gold medalist.<\/p>\n

While basketball scenes are sprinkled throughout the film, the storyline focuses on the strong bond between James and his childhood friends, known initially as the \u201cFab Four,\u201d Sian Cotton, Willie McGee, James and Joyce. They later became the \u201cFab Five\u201d with the addition of Romeo Travis.<\/p>\n
