\nJanuary is a pop culture tour de force,<\/em> complete with the Golden Globe Awards, the launch of super popular TV shows such as “American Idol” and “24,” The Inauguration (or State of the Union in other years), the NCAA National Championship, the NFL Championship Games, etc. Plus the anticipation for the Academy Awards nominations grabs much of the media focus and pop culture coverage.
\nIn the meantime, though, the Grammys–our nation’s foremost and one of the longest running music awards show–struggle on, complete with more categories and nominations than one can keep up with, but seemingly lost to many in our culture.<\/p>\n


\nLil Wayne has the most nominations with eight. Coldplay has seven and Kanye West is among those with six. Alison Krauss, John Mayer, Robert Plant, Radiohead and Jazmine Sullivan each have five. The Eagles and George Strait lead the list with four.
\nIt amazes me how the The Oscars get so much worldwide attention, while television’s Emmys, stage’s Tonys and music’s Grammys get comparatively little. (The “Golden Globe awards”–which reward movies as well as television–seem to be Show #2. ) After all, I spend more time listening to my iPod than watching movies. And, when it comes to inspiring moments, the Grammys have always provided more than the other award shows because it’s much easier to re-create a 3-minute song during the show than create a suprising movie moment. Yet I don’t seem to care as much about the awards.
