Kel Mitchell and Kenan Thompson recently broke the news on an appearance on \u201cThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon\u201d that \u201cGood Burger 2\u201d is coming.<\/p>\n<p>In the show\u2019s introduction, Fallon greets Thompson before Mitchell comes in character as \u201cEd,\u201d causing Fallon to get in on the fun in a \u201cGood Burger\u201d costume before the trio informs the audience to \u201cWelcome to Good Burger 2.\u201d During the interview, Fallon pointed out that it\u2019s been over 25 years since the original \u201cGood Burger\u201d film was released.<\/p>\n<p>The 1997 movie was based on a comedy sketch about a fast-food restaurant from the Nickelodeon show \u201cAll That.\u201d It proved a box office success, grossing just under $24 million against a reported budget of $8 million. It has gone on to achieve cult status, with Mitchell and Thompson reuniting for a \u201cGood Burger\u201d sketch on \u201cThe Tonight Show\u201d in 2015 and subsequently stating over the years they were open to a new iteration of the film. Mitchell also appeared as Ed in the \u201cAll That\u201d revival series in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Mitchell played Ed, while Thompson played Dexter. Thompson told Fallon, \u201cIt\u2019s such a blessing, man. It\u2019s unbelievable. We\u2019re going to shoot it this summer, and it\u2019s going to be out soon.\u201d A press release for the project says the new film\u2019s plot involves Dexter Reed \u201cdown on his luck after another one of his inventions fails.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AHTPfDgIwIk\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>According to the plot line, \u201cEd welcomes Dex back to Good Burger with open arms and gives him his old job back. With a new crew working at Good Burger, Dex comes up with a plan to get back on his feet but unfortunately puts the fate of Good Burger at risk once again.\u201d In a statement, Thompson said, \u201cI can\u2019t believe it\u2019s been a little over 25 years since great customer service was born at Good Burger!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thompson continued, \u201cBeing a part of something so many generations of people have come to love has made me so proud, and now to be back where it all began working on the sequel is surreal! I love performing with my brother Kel and can\u2019t wait to show the fans what these characters have been up to since we last saw them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mitchell added his own statement, saying, \u201cEd is one of those timeless characters that has brought so much joy and laughter to fans, and it\u2019s such a beautiful blessing to be still doing it after all these years. It\u2019s super awesome to come back and continue the stories of Dex, Ed and Good Burger for both the people who grew up watching and their kids.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert, who co-wrote the original film and worked on \u201cAll That,\u201d serve as writers and executive producers on the sequel. James III is also a writer on the film, Phil Traill will direct, and Nickelodeon Studios will produce.<\/p>\n<p>Shauna Phelan and Zack Olin, co-heads of Nickelodeon &amp; Awesomeness Live-Action, oversee the movie\u2019s production for Nickelodeon Studios.
