But, I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that while it is truly a tragedy for the couple’s children, there may be a silver lining in Madonna and Guy Ritchie’s divorce: Ritchie may once again be able to make films.
\nNow, interestingly enough, popular biographer Andrew Morton surmised yesterday at TheDailyBeast.com<\/a> that Her Madgesty got bored with her hubby and his less than stellar box office following his brilliant and promising “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” debut.<\/p>\n


\nIn fact, Morton alludes to not just a boredom with their somewhat staid British gentry lifestyle, but a seeming underlying contempt as a basis for the breakup writing, “Meanwhile Madonna has moved on reasoning that anything her husband can do, she can do better. Her directorial debut Filth and Wisdom, which was premiered on New York’s Lower East Side…earned high praise from the critics.”
\nCould Madonna be like Rogue, the X-Men mutant who steals other mutants’ abilities simply with a touch? Better yet, is she like “Hero’s” Sylar, the anti-hero who tracks down other heroes only to steal and use their powers?
\nAll comic book comparisons aside, I think this may be a real opportunity for Ritchie. Let’s be honest, Kabbalah never really suited the man, but it goes beyond him being able to wear a color other than white to worship services; divorce has reinvigorated careers before and it may be able to do it again.
\nNow, who knows why the dynamic of certain relationships sometimes results in one half of a couple wilting; perhaps there’s a submission to the dominant personality or a self-defeating desire to simply be taken care of or a willingness to sacrifice one’s career for another (Remember when Ritchie directed Mrs. Ritchie in the critically lambasted “Swept Away”?). But there is no question that when Andre Agassi and Brooke Shields divorced, his A-game returned. Or that Nicole Kidman has done most of her best work post-Tom.
\nAgain, divorce is a dreadfully difficult and serious thing, and I don’t wish to make light of their situation, but let’s just say I’ll be keeping an eye on Mr. Ritchie’s career.
