In addressing the title, the Grammy winner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/pamwindsor\/2022\/09\/19\/leann-rimes-releases-new-album-gods-work--calling-it-a-journey-of-reclamation\/?sh=265bd90037e4\">said<\/a>, \u201cthe lowercase \u2018g\u2019 represents the duality of this record and where humanity meets spirit.\u201d She called the album a \u201creclamation of God\u201d for her, saying, \u201cI kind of ran from the word God for a long time. I was raised Southern Baptist and my frustration was we\u2019re brought up with these messages of love, acceptance, community, and forgiveness, but no one\u2019s living them to the fullest. It really makes us question how we\u2019re allowing creation to work through us for a better world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite talking about the spirituality of the album for her, she didn\u2019t necessarily limit the \u201cgod\u201d of <em>god\u2019s work <\/em>to the Yahweh of the Bible. \u201cGod can mean different things to different people. To me, it\u2019s like insert the word \u2018love,\u2019 insert the word \u2018creation\u2019. I saw somewhere where people were saying it\u2019s called god\u2019s work, so it\u2019s a religious record. It\u2019s whatever it is to you.\u201d The album itself is three years in the making, with the titular song, \u201cgod\u2019s work\u201d being one of the first songs she recorded for the album. \u201cIn early 2019 we wrote \u2018god\u2019s work\u2019 and \u2018Throw My Arms Around the Word,\u2019 and we recorded mid-year, then thought we\u2019d take a moment to regroup since I was on tour and start writing again in 2020. We did that and then life happened, so we started creating a record with everyone on the couch in their sweats,\u201d she said, referring to the 2020 COVID pandemic and subsequent lockdowns. She used her experience of the anxieties during that time to inform the rest of her album, trying to capture \u201cthe collective experience\u201d of those early days of the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Rimes has focused particularly on wellness in the last decade and began her own wellness podcast in 2020 called \u201cWholly Human.\u201d In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/thechalkboardmag.com\/leann-rimes-awakening-mentall-health\">\u201cThe Chalkboard,\u201d<\/a> the singer discussed the toll that being a celebrity took on her, coming into the music world at the tender age of 13 and winning a Grammy at 14. \u201cI\u2019ve spent my whole life in front of the world\u2019s eyes, being projected upon in one way or another since I was 13 years old. For so long, our society has not wanted to see the humanness of our celebrities\u2026 For my own soul and sanity, it has been important to me to not have to fracture myself to be \u2018LeAnn Rimes.\u2019\u201d She stated she looked to creativity to help her when \u201canxiety creeps in.\u201d \u201cHaving daily communion with my own soul has been so important,\u201d she added. \u201cMeditation, nature, and creating help me to stay in touch with my inner voice, my connection to creation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now 40, Rimes hopes to use her latest album to touch the heart of her fans. \u201cEven when people didn\u2019t know the music they seemed to be connecting and jamming to it already. When we played \u2018god\u2019s work\u2019 it\u2019s like we turned the whole audience into a choir and by the end they were all singing \u2018We are God\u2019s work\u2019 then applauding afterward.
