Kansas City Royals pitcher Luke Weaver is catching the attention of Christian baseball fans for sharing his faith on the field by wearing a self-designed glove called the \u201cBible Glove<\/a>\u201d that features three Bible verses and other biblical symbols.<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old right-hander told Sports Spectrum about the glove, which resembles the binding of an old leather Bible, saying, \u201cIt\u2019s just a way where I want to be able to show the world that in the midst of that battle and the competition and the personality and expression, this is what I choose to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Weaver, who the Arizona Diamondbacks traded for infielder Emmanuel Rivera, added, \u201cIn doing this, I hope more kids can wear a glove like I\u2019m wearing and to wear it in their travel ball and their Little Leagues and their high schools and their colleges, to one day just be like, \u2018Hey, I\u2019m using a glove that helps me play this game, but I\u2019m also expressing who I am, and I love every second of it.\u2019 If someone wants to ask about it, guess what: Now we get to talk about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The glove, made by the company Aria, features a cross, a crown of thorns, the phrase \u201cHis Glory,\u201d and three Bible verses:\u00a0Philippians 4:13<\/a>, which reads, \u201cI can do all this through him who gives me strength;\u201d\u00a0Matthew 19:26,<\/a>\u00a0which states, \u201cWith man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible;\u201d and\u00a01 Corinthians 16:13<\/a>, which reads, \u201cBe on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.\u201d<\/p>\n

On its\u00a0website<\/a>, Aria quotes Weaver as saying, \u201cThe nicest leather I\u2019ve ever used.\u201d The glove\u2019s description reads: \u201cA leather-bound Bible with intricate detailing down the index\/spine, gold lettered \u201cHis Glory\u201d stamping, and verses to keep you motivated during the game knowing He is behind you. This is a big league game-ready model, co-designed and used by pro baseball player and 1st round draft pick, Luke Weaver.\u201d<\/p>\n

Weaver has previously played for the St. Louis Cardinals, which selected him in the first round of the\u00a02014 MLB draft\u00a0from\u00a0Florida State University. After the 2018 season, the Cardinals traded Weaver to the Diamondbacks. In an earlier podcast, Weaver talked about the pressure of pitching in the major leagues.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t care who you are; if you\u2019re not putting up results, the weight of the world feels like it\u2019s crushing you,\u201d Weaver said, according to Sports Spectrum. \u201cYou know how easily it could be taken away. It\u2019s a \u2018next man up\u2019 kind of thing. They\u2019ll always find somebody better, or not even better, just someone to fill [your spot] until someone produces that role. It\u2019s ever-changing. You\u2019re just an interchangeable piece.\u201d<\/p>\n

There\u2019s something to be said about an athlete willing to carry the Lord with his baseball glove. By doing so, Luke Weaver inspires a generation of athletes to carry their faith wherever they go.
