Getting baptized is a special rite of passage within any religion. It symbolizes washing away your old life and stepping into a life with God as His child. Actress Candace Cameron Bure said her heart was \u201coverwhelmed by God\u2019s goodness and grace\u201d after watching her daughter, Natasha Bure, publicly profess her faith through baptism.<\/p>\n
She wrote on Instagram, \u201cAs a mama, there\u2019s nothing that tops this day. Nothing! My three adult children have now all professed their faith, love, service, and devotion to Jesus Christ; Lord of Lords, King of Kings, Savior of the world.\u201d A short snipped of the baptism quickly gained over 1 million views on Instagram.<\/p>\n
Bure thanked Pastor Dudley Rutherford of Shepard Church in Porter Ranch, California, for baptizing her daughter. She also talked to CBN\u2019s Faithwire about the importance of parents praying for their children. Bure said walking the talk is essential for parents\u2019 Christian journey, especially as their kids watch them. She said, \u201cPray, pray, pray for your children every day of their lives. Just as importantly, walk the talk yourself! You are your children\u2019s biggest and brightest example.\u201d<\/p>\n
The actress added life isn\u2019t always a walk in the park, but children can see how parents respond to the peaks and valleys. Bure continued, \u201cHow you handle the hardships in attitude and character by praying, submitting to God, and honoring the Lord in your decisions speaks volumes to your kids, even if you don\u2019t think they see it at the time. Be the example you wanted to have growing up. God is faithful, even when you aren\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n
The actress added another crucial reminder: \u201cRead the Bible. And read the Bible to your children.\u201dAs to Bure\u2019s point, research has found Bible engagement is an essential indicator for children maintaining faith in adulthood. And considering the mandate we see in Proverbs 22:6 that says, \u201cStart children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old, they will not turn from it,\u201d Bure\u2019s Scripture-based advice is solid.<\/p>\n
Baptism is an ordinance of the New Testament instituted by Jesus Christ. It is intended to signify fellowship with Christ in His death and resurrection and the remission of sins. It also indicates that the baptized person has given themselves up to God, through Jesus Christ, so that they may live and conduct themselves in the newness of life. As a parent, it\u2019s a blessing to have a child choose to get baptized independently and not at your request. This sentiment means they understand the significance of baptism and want to be washed anew with Christ.<\/p>\n
Candace Cameron Bure also used this opportunity to advise parents when setting an example. Whether you realize it or not, your children are constantly watching you. They see what you do and emulate what they see because they think it\u2019s okay. If you want them to walk in the way of the Lord, you must walk that path yourself. Be the person that you want them to be when they grow up.<\/p>\n
