Denzel Washington recently appeared on Instagram Live with Brooklyn Pastor A.R. Bernard of Christian Cultural Center to talk about his relationship with God and his faith journey.<\/p>\n

Washington, who is devout Christian, shared that he had given his life to Christ three times when he was younger, Fox News reported.<\/p>\n

The Academy Award-winning actor described a \u201csupernatural\u201d encounter with God back in the 80s during a church service. This moment shook him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was filled with the Holy Ghost, and it scared me. I said, \u2018Wait a minute, I didn\u2019t want to go this deep, I want to party,\u2019\u201d Washington said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI went to church with Robert Townsend, and when it came time to come down to the altar, I said, \u2018You know this time, I\u2019m just going to go down there and give it up and see what happens,\u2019\u201d Washington continued. \u201cI went in the prayer room and gave it up and let go and experienced something I\u2019ve never experienced in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following the service, Washington reached out to his mother about the life-changing experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cI felt like I was going up in the air, and my cheeks were filled,\u201d Washington said.<\/p>\n

His mother responded, \u201c\u2018Oh no, that\u2019s the devil you\u2019re purging.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a supernatural, once in this lifetime experience that I couldn\u2019t completely understand at the time,\u201d the Training Day actor said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt kept me grounded in spite of myself; I mean, I accepted it, I definitely experienced it, but I wasn\u2019t ready to live it. I don\u2019t know how old I was then, but I wasn\u2019t ready to live it then,\u201d Washington added. \u201cI\u2019m sure I\u2019m not the only one who\u2019s gone through that kind of experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

Many fans of Denzel Washington know that he is a devout Christian who is unashamed and unapologetic about his faith. As the son of a minister, he grew up in the church. At a very young age, he was told by a prophet that he would play an important role in spreading the Gospel around the world. From then on, he knew he had a special calling from God.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m doing what God told me to do from the beginning,\u201d Washington said. \u201cIt was prophesied that I would travel the world and speak to millions of people. It was prophesied at 20. I thought it [would be] through my work, and it has been.\u201d<\/p>\n

When he turned 59, his mother told him that he would do good by a lot of people, but he had to do good the right way.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t drink anymore. I don\u2019t do any of those things,\u201d Washington said. \u201cI\u2019m all about the message to the degree that I know it, and I\u2019m unashamed and unafraid to share it.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
