Why don\u2019t we engage the truths of America and how it\u2019s values are antithetical to the Gospel?,\u201d he asked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Chance then continued, \u201cIs it not directly the responsibility of the Church to dismantle and defeat White Supremacy? Is equality not the basis for forming the body of Christ?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"\u201d\">\n<p dir=\"\u201d\" lang=\"\u201d\">I\u2019m sure I\u2019m gonna get replies from nonbelievers, but I\u2019d like to ask my Christian followers out there: Why don\u2019t we as a church explicitly address White Supremacy and racism on Sundays? Why don\u2019t we engage the truths of America and how it\u2019s values are antithetical to the Gospel?<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Chance The Rapper (@chancetherapper) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/chancetherapper\/status\/1271907946671362048?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 13, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><br \/>\n<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">This is not the first time the rapper has been open and outspoken about his faith. Several pastors decided to engage with the Chicago-native rapper.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">One of those pastors was Phil Johnson of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, CA. He is also the executive director of John MacArthur\u2019s media ministry, Grace to You.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Johnson warned Chance about the dangers of \u201cWokism\u201d which he called a \u201cblatantly racist worldview, condemning entire ethnic groups for sins that were committed generations ago by people long dead,\u201d according to a blog post that Johnson wrote linked to the rapper.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He also tweeted, \u201cAdopting a leftist political agenda would actually undermine gospel truth,\u201d then linking the article to his tweet.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">It\u2019s the values of this WORLD (not just America) that are antithetical to the gospel and hostile to God (James 4:4), and I hear preachers point that fact out regularly.<\/p>\n<p>Adopting a leftist political agenda would actually undermine gospel truth.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/v7Ax8KXISG\">https:\/\/t.co\/v7Ax8KXISG<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Phil Johnson (@Phil_Johnson_) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Phil_Johnson_\/status\/1272054492410724357?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 14, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><br \/>\n<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Chance responded to Johnson with the question, \u201cis dismantling White Supremacy an exclusively \u2018leftist\u2019 agenda?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He then added, \u201cIs hearing a preacher directly pointing to the racist structure of our country today somehow worse than making an overarching conversation about how all sin matters? [White Supremacy] is built on works of the flesh, we can say that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Another pastor, Grabriel Hughes of First Southern Baptist Church in Kansas also started a dialogue, challenging Chance by dismissing the notion of \u201cWhite Supremacy.\u201d Instead, he said that individual sin is the real issue.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have the same rights I do\u201d, Hughes\u00a0wrote. \u201cYou\u2019re also a sinner as I am. We were all \u2018hated by others and hating one another\u2019 (Titus 3:3).<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cAll of us are guilty of this. Repent of your sin, believe in Jesus and follow Him, and be saved from the judgment of God,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Hughes then followed up that Chance\u2019s financial success as a mainstream artist proved that he has the same opportunities to \u201cmake it\u201d as anyone, he said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cYes, there are still divisions, but not because of a \u2018racist structure.\u2019 It\u2019s because people are sinners,\u201d Hughes wrote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Chance pointed to history in his response to Hughes, while also quoting Scripture, specifically Ephesians 6:12.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cYou\u2019re obfuscating,\u201d Chance wrote. \u201cYou\u2019re old enough and grown enough to either study the history of law in the United States or know it already.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cIf you are confused about the placement of judgment, it\u2019s not on people but the system of white supremacy that is in every American institution. I forgive you tho,\u201d the rapper said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Do you agree with Chance?
