The win for \u201cParasite\u201d came in year in which many criticized the lack of diversity in the nominees and the absence of female filmmakers.<\/p>\n<p>There were other notable marks in Oscar history. In winning best adapted screenplay for his Nazi satire \u201cJojo Rabbit,\u201d the New Zealand filmmaker Taika Waititi became the first indigenous director ever to win an Oscar.
