The secret to Patriots\u2019 Matthew Slater\u2019s coin-toss success is God.<\/em><\/p>\n

Why has New England Patriots Team Captain Matthew Slater called heads at every coin toss during his professional career? The answer has a lot to do with his earthly father and his heavenly Father.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I remember as a child watching my father play in LA and him going out and doing the coin toss for the Rams,\u201d Slater, a devout Christian, told the Boston Globe<\/em>. \u201cHe always called heads, so I asked him one time, \u2018Hey, why do you do that? What\u2019s the story behind that?\u2019 I think anyone who knows my family knows faith is important to us and for him, he was always like, \u2018You know, God\u2019s the head of my life, so I call heads.\u2019 That was something he came up with and I\u2019ve kind of just embraced it.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Slater can\u2019t tell you his official coin toss record, he\u2019s just thankful the \u201ctwo biggest ones [he\u2019s] been involved in\u201d have worked in the Patriots\u2019 favor. In the three postseason overtime games Brady has played in, New England\u2019s opponents have never touched the ball.<\/p>\n

While the Super Bowl is the most important game for every player in the NFL, Matthew Slater says it is just a game he\u2019s playing in this Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not life and death. This is not the biggest thing that we\u2019ll do,\u201d Slater told CBN Sports<\/em>. \u201cThe biggest and most important decision we\u2019ll ever make in our lives is what we do with the knowledge of Jesus Christ.\u201d<\/p>\n

Slater also added, \u201cWe love what we do but we have to keep perspective on the greater good!\u201d<\/p>\n

Slater is known not only for being a Christian but also being vocal about his faith. Before last year\u2019s Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles, during a press conference, he talked about he didn\u2019t just admire the other teams\u2019 playing ability but also admired their faith.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really appreciate Carson\u2019s boldness for the Gospel, how he represents Christ day in and day out,\u201d Slater said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s not only him. You know, Nick does that as well. Chris Maragos. Brother Burton. I mean, there are a lot of brothers over there that stand firm for what they believe in, they represent the Gospel in a tremendous fashion.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cUltimately, I know, to them and myself, that\u2019s what\u2019s going to matter for eternity beyond the game of football,\u201d Slater said. \u201cThey\u2019ll be my brothers in the Lord for a long time to come.\u201d<\/p>\n
