This engaged couple\u2019s special gift to their nieces could inspire a major change for Barbie toy maker, Mattel.<\/p>\n
Matt Jacobi and Nick Caprio of Scottsdale, Arizona, wanted to buy their niece a birthday gift that would serve as a nod to her flower girl duties at their upcoming wedding. However, they noticed a lack of any same-sex couple sets on the market.<\/p>\n
Instead, they bought two Barbie Wedding sets which includes a Barbie, Ken, two flower girls, and a cake. They swaped out a Babie with another Ken, to represent their relationship.<\/p>\n
Jacobi, an executive at a creative agency, took to Instagram last Dec. 9 to show the wedding set he and his fiance made, with a message addressed to major toy maker Mattel.<\/p>\n

We thought it would be special to give her something with a little meaning behind it. What a bummer you don\u2019t make one with two grooms. The image caught the eye of someone at Mattel, and Jacobi says the company has reached out to him and Caprio about setting up a meeting in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n
Jacobi told CNN that the couple have confirmed a time to sit down with the toy maker. “We have a confirmed date set in early January, and we are extremely excited, grateful and incredibly determined to make this happen,” he told the news outlet. “We are over the moon with all the positive responses we have received. We really just want to thank all the people out there for believing in our message that love is love.”<\/p>\n
He noted that toys have an impact on teaching children about the world.<\/p>\n
He told Out, \u201cMy nieces only know that only Uncle Matt loves Uncle Nick and Uncle Nick loves Uncle Matt.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jacobi and Caprio are marrying in May 2019 and have been in a relationship for over 11 years.<\/p>\n
