What may be surprising is that the horror genre is also vast, and diverse.\u00a0 There are certainly films within this genre filled with senseless violence and gore, however there are also movies produced under this banner that portray spiritual warfare and the need for faith and prayer.<\/p>\n

These films aren\u2019t thought of as faith-based and yet, they pack a powerful and perhaps the strongest message of all \u2013 that evil is not only real, it will do anything to destroy us, but God will always be there to protect and redeem those who turn to Him. Here\u2019s a list of 5 horror movies that re-affirms a message of faith.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/a>The Nun<\/h3>\n

“The Nun” is the latest film in the “Conjuring Universe,” one of the most successful horror franchises in recent history.<\/p>\n

Synopsis:<\/em>\u00a0 When a young nun at a cloistered abbey in Romania takes her own life, a priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows are sent by the Vatican to investigate.\u00a0 When they arrive, they discover the ancient abbey to be a battleground between the supernatural forces of good and evil.\u00a0\u00a0 Risking not only their lives, but their faith and their very souls, they confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun that first terrorized audiences in \u201cThe Conjuring 2.\u201d<\/p>\n

All films in the \u201cConjuring Universe\u201d have a theme of battling evil, the need for faith, and the power of prayer, and it looks like “The Nun”\u00a0will continue to portray these themes onscreen.\u00a0 The movie releases in theaters this Friday, September 7.<\/p>\n

A Quiet Place<\/h3>\n

“A Quiet Place” was the surprise hit of this year.\u00a0 Fan-favorite John Kransinski directed and co-starred in this film alongside his wife Emily Blunt.

The Conjuring<\/h3>\n

Written by Christian screenwriters, Chad and Carey Hayes, “The Conjuring” was the movie that launched a successful franchise \u2013 with the latest previously mentioned, “The Nun.”<\/p>\n

Synopsis:<\/em>\u00a0 Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. Based on a true story, “The Conjuring” tells the horrifying tale of how world renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren were called upon to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.<\/p>\n

Critics also praised this film when it released in theaters.\u00a0 The movie portrays a family plagued by evil.\u00a0 It\u2019s terrifying, but also pointed in its message that God is always more powerful than evil.<\/p>\n

Dracula<\/h3>\n

Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” directed by Francis Ford Coppola features an all-star cast that includes Gary Oldman, Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder, and Anthony Hopkins.<\/p>\n

Unlike other vampire movies depicting this famous monster, this 1992 film version begins with a heartbreaking backstory.\u00a0 It portrays the devastating spiritual and physical consequence of anger, rebellion, renouncing one\u2019s faith, and committing sacrilege against God.<\/p>\n

The film which won three Academy Awards, weaves Christian symbolism throughout, and serves as a cautionary tale against giving in to evil.<\/p>\n

The Exorcist<\/h3>\n

“The Exorcist” needs no introduction. To this day, the film, which won two Academy Awards, continues to terrorize audiences. Folks who haven\u2019t seen the doorway of a church in many years find themselves sitting in a pew shortly after watching this movie.<\/p>\n

Synopsis:<\/em> Nominated for ten Academy Awards, including \u201cBest Picture,\u201d “The Exorcist” was controversial and extremely popular from the moment it opened in 1973.<\/p>\n
