Dogs seem to suck the negativity right out of a room and replace it with bright eyes, raised ears, furry smiles and swishing tails. These four legged friends seem made to bring happiness. As such, director Ken Marino teamed up with screenwriters Elisa Matsueda and Erica Oyama to bring some of that furry happiness to the big screen where dog lovers and cat people alike could soak up a little bit of the joy man’s best friend carries around with him.

“The world is a really hard place right now to deal with every day,” said Ken Marino. “I wanted to dive into a movie that would make people feel good for a while, and I am a sucker for dogs.”

Marino aimed to bring his vision to light with “Dog Days,” a romantic comedy-drama about a group of people in Los Angeles who become intertwined in each other’s lives thanks to the actions and antics of their dogs. The film follows the canine stars and their humans to show how the dogs affect their owners’ lives and bring the characters of the movie together.

Though the canine actors may be the real showstoppers, there are plenty of human stars packed into the film as well. Eva Longora of “Desperate Housewives,” Vanessa Hudgens of “High School Musical,” Nina Dobrev of “The Vampire Diaries,” Ron Cephas Jones of “This Is Us” and Finn Wolfhard from “Stranger Things” all star in “Dog Days.”

At first glance, the film might sound like a movie only for dog people, but Marino stressed that there was far more to “Dog Days” that four legged thespians. “[The movie] is about how people learn to be better people and how dogs help us and guide us in the right direction,” he said. The film is definitely a mix of sweet moments and hilarious humor, but it has an underlying message about what humans can learn from animals about treating others with kindness and compassion. That is a lesson people today dearly need to learn.

Check out the trailer for “Dog Days” online now and see the premier on Wednesday, August 8, 2018.

As anyone who has ever own a dog knows, the world automatically looks a little brighter when there is a wagging tail in it.
