Patton Oswalt, a comedian and actor who is known for his atheist beliefs, recently mocked the Bible and compared it to works of fiction.<\/p>\n

\u201cDear people citing The Bible,\u201d Oswalt wrote on Twitter. \u201cIt\u2019s a cool book with some wonderful passages but it also has ghost sex & giants & super babies & demons. It\u2019s why we don\u2019t make laws based on Game of Thrones, My Little Pony or Legend of Zelda.\u201d<\/p>\n

Oswalt, who has appeared in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty<\/em> and Ratatouille<\/em>, and currently plays Principal Durbin on NBC\u2019s A.P. Bio<\/em>, often brings up atheism in his stand-up comedy.<\/p>\n

But this tweet didn\u2019t leave users laughing, with the actor-comedian receiving pushback.<\/p>\n

His tweet was referencing those quoting the Bible in the discussion over separating families at the border. But instead of the conversation staying on immigration, it became a debate over the Bible. More than 4,000 people commented, many Christian users defending the Bible and their beliefs.<\/p>\n

Twitter user Yorton Clark wrote, \u201cMost of all the laws we have are based from the Bible, murder, stealing, take care of your family and neighbors\u2026It\u2019s called moral law.\u201d<\/p>\n

Others clapped back at the comedian with sarcasm. Eric Teetsel, president of the Family Policy Alliance of Kansas wrote, \u201cGhost sex and super babies? Who taught Patton\u2019s Sunday School class? Jack Black?\u201d<\/p>\n

Twitter user Casey Lawson wrote, \u201cI used to be a Christian. That was before I read this brilliant Patton Oswalt tweet and subsequently renounced God. I never realized that the Bible is literally Twilight or that reciting the Lord\u2019s Prayer is exactly the same thing as praying to Link.\u201d<\/p>\n
