Singer, songwriter and actress Selean Gomez was scared, as anyone would be when dealing with medical issues. Sources close to the star told TMZ that Gomez’s faith in God is what gave her the strength to handle her\u00a0failing kidneys and Lupus. \u00a0Sources continued on saying that God has become the most important thing in Selena’s life, and as scared as she was, she was resigned to the fact that her fate was in God’s hands. She prayed a lot during this time as she was on the kidney transplant list.\u00a0Selena ultimately received the life-saving organ from her best friend Fracia Raisa, who has appeared on “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” and “The Cutting Edge.”<\/p>\n

“She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me,” Selena\u00a0wrote in an Instagram post. “I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.”<\/p>\n

Raisa responded publicly to Selena’s confession to fans by saying:\u00a0“I am beyond grateful that God would trust me with something that not only saved a life, but changed mine in the process. This was part of our story, and we will share it soon, but what is important now is that this is not the only story,” She then linked to more information regarding Lupus.<\/p>\n

Raisa, 29, has been friends with Gomez since 2008 after having met at a charity event between ABC and Disney at Children’s Hospital. The two share in their faith, and last year in an Instagram post Raisa wrote: “I am so grateful that God put you in my life when he did.”<\/p>\n

Selena’s kidneys were failing long before her transplant. Back in May, Selena was hospitalized while in Chicago because of kidney failure. She also took a break from touring last year to deal with her lupus diagnosis. Lupus is a chronic disease that attacks the body’s immune system and the kidneys, and she has suffered from very serious symptoms.<\/div>\n

As far as Gomez\u2019s fans go, they have all the support and love in the world for the singer as her journey with the illness continues.\u00a0Many fans joined together to offer prayer to the star, and donated to Lupus organizations.<\/p>\n

Selena has long appreciated the support from her fans during difficult times, but her reliance on faith has really grown during this past year. Gomez entered into rehab in August of 2016 after suffering from anxiety, depression and panic attacks as a result of her Lupus diagnosis. She signed up for a Christian-based program that helped her build a stronger relationship in God.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Today, Selena is looking happier and healthier than ever. She was spotted on the set of Woody Allen’s new movie with a smile plastered across her face. Being able to share with her fans that the transplant was successful was a huge relief for the star. Selena, knowing how badly the procedure was needed, is happy to be back doing what she does best: entertaining the world.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
