108 years was enough for the Chicago Cubs.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday evening in Game 7 of the World Series at Progressive Field, for the first time since 1908 the Cubs stood tall as the champions of baseball. The Cubs overcame the odds – fighting a series of blows from the Indians, \u00a0weathering a storm coming off of Lake Erie, and collapse of their flame-throwing closer in a 8-7 victory in 10 innings.<\/p>\n
Cubs fans have suffered through a lot of bad baseball before getting to this day, coming within inches of a World Series twice before losing the grip on the rope.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t believe, after 108 years, we\u2019re finally able to hoist the trophy\u201d\u00a0said World Series MVP Ben Zobrist.<\/p>\n
After winning Game 1 and 2, the Cubs took a beating with the Indians taking the win for Games 3-5. The Cubs had to make a comeback and win Game 6 and 7 in order to take home the title.<\/p>\n
The championship game lasted almost five hours\u00a0and it wasn’t without its twists and turns. The Cubs took the lead early on in the game, but started to lose momentum during the 7th inning. Without any runs in the 8th and 9th, the Indians took the lead. It wasn’t until the 10th inning that the Cubs scored again, twice, to take the lead back, allowing them to take home the trophy.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis one about made me pass out,\u2019\u2019\u2019 Zobrist said. \u201cIt was just an epic battle. It was like a heavyweight fight, man. Just blow for blow, everybody playing their heart out.<\/p>\n
Played their heart out they did.<\/p>\n
