The 142nd<\/sup> Kentucky Derby was held Saturday at Churchill Downs in Louisville. Nyquist, ridden by record-setting Mario Gutierrez, became the victor.<\/p>\n

“It was an amazing feeling,” Gutierrez said. “Nyquist only needs a horse to push him. If he feels somebody coming he’s going to keep going as fast as he needs to go. I have never doubted my horse.”<\/p>\n

The official winning time for the race was 2:01.31, almost two seconds faster than Triple Crown winner American Pharaoh\u2019s time last year.<\/p>\n

Nyquist grabbed the lead down the homestretch and held of Exaggerator to win by 1 \u00bc lengths. Gun Runner was third, edging Mohaymen in fourth. Nyquist was one of the top three horses for the majority of the race.<\/p>\n

Exaggerator\u2019s trainer, Keith Desormeaux, stated \u201cWhat a horse, Nyquist. I can\u2019t respect that horse enough.\u201d<\/p>\n
