With Kelly and Michael\u201d morning program to join ABC\u2019s \u201cGood Morning America\u201d for a full-time spot starting in September, ABC announced Tuesday morning. ABC is hoping Strahan will help it gain new ground in TV\u2019s ever-intensifying morning-news wars.<\/p>\n

Strahan has become a large TV presence with his stints as a commentator for Fox Sports\u2019 football coverage and being the host of a new kid-award franchise on Nickelodeon. He will retain his duties as a football analyst for Fox in the fall.<\/p>\n

Strahan has been a twice-a-week presence on \u201cGMA\u201d for the past two years, bringing a new energy to the broadcast.<\/p>\n

\u201cMichael has been a stellar addition to\u00a0the broadcast.\u00a0 Over the past two\u00a0years on \u2018GMA,\u2019 he\u2019s proven to be a tireless and versatile broadcaster with an incredible ability to connect with people, from veterans to American pop culture icons and newsmakers,\u201d said James Goldston, president of ABC News, in a memo sent to staff. \u201cHe will end a four year run as Kelly Ripa\u2019s co-host on \u2018Live!,\u2019 where he has honed his skills as an interviewer with genuine warmth and a quick wit. \u00a0At \u2018GMA,\u2019 he\u2019ll now have even more opportunities to tell stories that inspire, inform and empower people.<\/p>\n

Strahan is joining \u201cGood Morning America\u201d at a critical time when morning shows are losing overall viewership. During Strahan\u2019s time on \u201cLive,\u201d it was ranked number one among entertainment daytime talk shows.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
