{"id":6079,"date":"2019-06-21T21:50:06","date_gmt":"2019-06-21T21:50:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/howgreatthoupart\/?p=6079"},"modified":"2019-06-21T21:50:06","modified_gmt":"2019-06-21T21:50:06","slug":"women-shouldnt-call-life-makeovers-second-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/howgreatthoupart\/2019\/06\/women-shouldnt-call-life-makeovers-second-act.html","title":{"rendered":"Why Women Shouldn&#8217;t Call Life Makeovers Their Second Act"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I spent years being intrigued by women&#8217;s Second Acts or reinventions profiled in the media.<\/p>\n<p><strong>These great stories of self-empowerment.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Women seizing the day and going after the life they&#8217;ve always wanted.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>While I haven&#8217;t lost my lust for them I believe labeling them Second Acts is a misnomer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/howgreatthoupart\/files\/2019\/06\/back-view-blur-blurred-background-1758144.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6083 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/374\/2019\/06\/back-view-blur-blurred-background-1758144-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"back-view-blur-blurred-background-1758144\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>It&#8217;s not a Second Act.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>It&#8217;s not a reinvention.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>It&#8217;s not a career or life makeover.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It is our First Act.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It is resurrecting who we have been all along.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>#WomanResurrected<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>What I call our &#8216;Once Upon a Time Story.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Each of us has one.<\/p>\n<p><em>The little child we were born to be.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>And the young girl who faced the wild world to begin her path in life.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not so much about reinventing who we are but more about re-establishing who we&#8217;ve have been all along.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who God created us to be.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>The dreams placed in our hearts.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>The nagging whisper which calls us to achieve something we feel deeply intended for.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The desire to pick up a paintbrush, teach, do missionary work, tend to the sick and more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It is the personal resurrection necessary to fulfill our intended purpose.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It isn&#8217;t a chance at a second life or dream. It is far more powerful than that. It is acknowledging I am a child of God and I intend to be who He created me to be. I deserve to resurrect the most precious parts of who I am. I deserve to resurrect my God-given gifts and instincts. I deserve to create the life and career I want.<\/p>\n<p>I deserve to take the experiences, adversity, and joy life has presented me with and build upon them.
