Ask any mother and they will tell you the same thing.<\/em><\/p>\n

Their children are all that matter.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They are everything.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mother’s Day is an excuse to get them all to ourselves.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Baseball? Sorry, it’s Mother’s Day.<\/em><\/p>\n

Dance? Sorry, it’s Mother’s Day.<\/em><\/p>\n

Work? Sorry, it’s Mother’s Day.<\/em><\/p>\n

Television? Sorry, it’s Mother’s Day.<\/em><\/p>\n

Friends? Sorry, it’s Mother’s Day.<\/em><\/p>\n

They are ours – all ours!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Just like they were in the beginning.<\/p>\n

It’s a bit ironic…<\/p>\n

Remember when they were little? When they would grab a toy, a lollipop or a balloon and declare ‘MINE?!’<\/em><\/p>\n

Mother’s Day is a grand role reversal.<\/p>\n

It’s our day to say ‘MINE!’<\/strong><\/p>\n

To hold on for dear life and say this child belongs to me. No one else! They are ‘MINE.’<\/strong><\/p>\n

With the same satisfied grin, they wore as children when they sashayed by their friends with their favorite toy.<\/em><\/p>\n

We get to shimmy up to the table at our fav restaurant while friends stop by to offer a ‘Happy Mother’s Day.’ \u00a0<\/em>We nod, smile and offer a thank you.<\/p>\n

What are we really thinking?<\/em><\/p>\n

Do you see these beautiful children sitting beside me? They are mine! All MINE!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Much like our children when they grabbed their favorite car or doll and sat for hours contently…so do we.<\/p>\n

A maternal utopia.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We wonder how we scored this prized possession?<\/em><\/p>\n

How did we get to be their\u00a0momma?<\/em><\/p>\n

How are they somehow far more amazing than who they came from?<\/em><\/p>\n

How are they ours?<\/em><\/p>\n

And like a child who wears themselves out – asleep in the car clutching their best toy. We hold on tightly in much the same way.<\/p>\n

We want this day, this glorious day about mothers and children to last forever.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

We want it all back.<\/p>\n

No matter how old our children get.<\/p>\n

We don’t want to lose our favorite thing in the whole world…even to college, a new apartment or a spouse.<\/em><\/p>\n

But we must.<\/em><\/p>\n

Because they are all that matter.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They are everything.<\/strong><\/p>\n

And fortunately once a year, we are again the\u00a0most important person in their lives.<\/em><\/p>\n

‘MINE!’<\/p>\n

If just for a glorious day.<\/em><\/p>\n

We are all that matter again.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We are their everything.<\/strong><\/p>\n
