Once upon a time there was a monk traveling down a road who had a pearl in his sack.\u00a0 In the village through which he was traveling there<\/span> was a man asleep who had a dream that there was a monk who had a pearl in his sack.\u00a0 When he awoke, he interpreted his dream to mean that he was to have that pearl.\u00a0 So he ran to the road, found the monk, and said, “Give me the pearl.”\u00a0 The monk said, “What pearl?”\u00a0 And the man said, “I had a dream that you have a pearl in your sack.”\u00a0 And the monk said, “As a matter of fact, I do.”\u00a0 and he looked into his sack and there, between an old prayer book and a crusty piece of bread, was a pearl.\u00a0 The monk took it out of his bag and held it in his hand, saying, “Do you mean this one?”\u00a0 The man said, “That’s it!”\u00a0 for the pearl was a big as the monk’s fist.\u00a0 The monk freely gave the pearl to the man, who snatched it and ran home.\u00a0 When he reached his house, he locked his door, pulled down his shades, put the pearl on a shelf, and sat and stared at it.\u00a0 But the more he stared at it, the more confused, the more restless he became.\u00a0 Until, finally, he could stand it no longer.\u00a0 He ran back to the road, found the monk, and gave him back the pearl, saying “I don’t want it.”\u00a0 And the monk said, “Well, then, what do <\/em>you want?”\u00a0 The man said, “I want the wealth that gave you the power to give the pearl away?”<\/span><\/p>\n
