The bank I frequent has a drive-through ATM, which is convenient because it saves me from having to get out and wait in a long teller line inside.<\/span><\/p>\n

For years, I\u2019ve followed the same routine: I pull up to the machine, make my deposits or withdrawals, then drive over and park in a spot about 50 feet away, underneath a big old stately shade tree, while I tuck my money in my wallet and put away my receipts.\u00a0 Quick and easy.<\/span><\/p>\n

One windy summer morning I had a lot of errands to run and was low on cash.\u00a0 So I drove over to my bank, waited patiently behind another car, then pulled up to the ATM.\u00a0 I put the car in park and slipped my card into the slot as usual.\u00a0 But the machine immediately spat it back out.\u00a0 \u201cCannot read card,\u201d the screen read.<\/span><\/p>\n

That\u2019s strange, <\/em>I thought.\u00a0 Maybe I\u2019d put the card in the wrong way.\u00a0 I tried again.\u00a0 Again the card shot back out.\u00a0 \u201cCannot read card.\u201d\u00a0 I flipped the card over and inspected the magnetic strip.\u00a0 It sure looked fine.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t find any deep scratches or defects.\u00a0 I rubbed it gently against my shirt in case there was any dirt, and tried one more time.\u00a0 Spat out again.\u00a0 \u201cCannot read card.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Now I was getting annoyed at the delay in my morning.\u00a0 I really didn\u2019t want to go inside the bank for a withdrawal.\u00a0 Judging by all the cars parked in the lot, I would have to wait a while.\u00a0 \u201cWhat\u2019s going on here, Lord?\u201d I muttered.<\/span><\/p>\n

Crack!<\/strong>\u00a0 <\/em>What was that? I turned toward the sound.\u00a0 The leaves of the stately old shade tree by the parking lot shook violently.<\/span><\/p>\n

Snap!<\/strong>\u00a0 <\/em>I watched as the trunk split right down the middle and the right part of the tree calved off to the side, crashing to the ground.\u00a0 Right in my favorite parking spot.\u00a0 I could see the exposed inner trunk, clearly rotted through.<\/span><\/p>\n

I stared in shock, until a car that had pulled up behind me gave me a polite little beep.\u00a0 On autopilot, I tried my ATM card again.\u00a0 The screen popped up, asking me what I\u2019d like to do.\u00a0 Deposit?\u00a0 Withdraw?\u00a0 Too bad there wasn\u2019t a button to give thanks.<\/p>\n

In truth there is always a way to give thanks.\u00a0 Just share the feelings from your heart.\u00a0 Don’t worry about the words, just share your truth.\u00a0 Giving thanks and being grateful goes a long way!\u00a0 Let thanksgiving enter your heart.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
