\nToday I was speaking with a good friend, Ed Lavin who lives in Far Rockaway, NY.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hearing his situation was very moving.\u00a0 Ed lost his mother last month.\u00a0 Now, given the devastation of the storm he is fortunate, as his apartment was not flooded or damaged by Hurricane Sandy, but Ed is still without power since last Monday.\u00a0 Meanwhile, his dad, who lives in Howard Beach can’t say the same.\u00a0 His home had five feet of water in the basement.\u00a0 Windows were shattered as water came pouring in, flooding and damaging their home.\u00a0 He\u00a0 is also without power.\u00a0 They are doing everything they can to save their home.\u00a0 Ed’s Dad lost his wife and life partner and now faces losing his home.<\/span><\/p>\n

The water is going down but without electricity to run a pump and repair the damage things are very challenging.\u00a0 Ed has organized family, friends and any people available to help save their home and help his father clean up the mess.<\/span>\u00a0 Forget about having the basic comforts of a home, heat, hot water, a home cooked meal and a place to rest your head.\u00a0 They are trying to survive and need help.\u00a0 Ed and his team are working whenever they can to help his dad.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Anyone in the area who can lend a hand to help with the clean up and repair of their home is needed.\u00a0 If you have anything you can donate, like clean sheets, blankets, clothes, food, etc., Ed and his father need your help.\u00a0 This is the time when people make all the difference in the world.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Hurricane Sandy was devastating, but people helping other people are even more powerful and incredible.\u00a0 Nothing can replace the human heart and a helping hand.\u00a0 This is the time when true heroes step up.\u00a0 They are not in the newspapers, or on TV, they are doing what it takes, helping other people and making a difference.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
