What Are You?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;color: #000080\">A wonderful metaphor:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her.<br \/>\nShe did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up.\u00a0 She was tired of fighting and struggling.\u00a0 It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">Her mother took her to the kitchen.\u00a0 She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire.\u00a0 Soon the pots came to boil.\u00a0 In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans.\u00a0 She let them sit and boil, without saying a word.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">In about twenty minutes, she turned off the burners.\u00a0 She fished out the carrots and placed them in a bowl.\u00a0 She pulled out the eggs and placed them in a bowl.\u00a0 Then she ladled out the coffee and placed it in a bowl.\u00a0 Turning to her daughter, she asked, &#8220;Tell me what you see.&#8221;<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">&#8220;Carrots, eggs, and coffee,&#8221; she replied.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots.\u00a0 She did and noted that they were soft.\u00a0 The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it.\u00a0 After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg.\u00a0 Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee.\u00a0 The daughter smiled as she tasted its richness and savored its aroma.\u00a0 The daughter then asked, &#8220;What does it mean, mother?&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity &#8212; boiling water.\u00a0 Each reacted differently.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting.\u00a0 However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">The egg had been fragile.\u00a0 Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">The ground coffee beans were unique, however.\u00a0 After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">&#8220;Which are you?&#8221; she asked her daughter.\u00a0 &#8220;When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond?\u00a0 Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">Think of this: Which am I?\u00a0 Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat?\u00a0 Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff?\u00a0 Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">Or am I like the coffee bean?\u00a0 The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain.\u00a0 When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor.\u00a0 If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst; you become even better and change the situation around you.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000080\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\">When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you elevate yourself to another level?\u00a0 How do you handle adversity?\u00a0 Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Calibri\">May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, and enough hope to make you happy. <\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\"><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #800080\">The happiest of people don&#8217;t necessarily have the best of everything;
