But we’re all pretty much in agreement that tonight Michael Sarver might be going home.
\nJoin me here live at 8 PM to find out! No matter who goes home, it promises to be a great show, with live performances by Stevie Wonder, Reuben Studdard, and a duet by Joss Stone and Smokey Robinson.<\/p>\n

\nRyan opens the show by telling us that 36 million votes were cast last night, which is a record for any Top 10 results show. Then he addresses the bizarre behavior between Paula and Simon – Ryan says get a room, and Simon says, “We did.” Yeesh. Spare us, OK? Even if it’s a joke?
\nThe Top 10 do a medley of Motown songs, amidst the revelation today that the group performances use backing tracks. I doubt that’s very unusual in today’s show biz. David wonders if the entire group performance tonight is taped. I think it’s live. But it’s so obvious in the big chorus parts of the performance use backing tracks.
\nBefore we get to any results we get the weekly Ford commercial, featuring the contestants. This week it’s set to Natasha Bedingfield’s “Pocketful of Sunshine.”
\nAnd next, here’s season 2 winner Reuben Studdard, performing. Gotta love the Velvet Teddy Bear. Is he wearing a wedding ring? Yup, he did! Congrats!
\nOn to some results. I wonder if we can tell by the way they’re sitting who might be in the bottom three. Lil is first, and Michael is second. And Scott and Alison are the last two on the bottom right. But ooo, they’re starting on the other end!
\nAdam is up first, and he’s through, obviously and deservedly.
\nMatt Giraud is next, and whoa, he’s in the bottom three! You’re kidding! That’s a shocker.
\nKris Allen is next, and he’s … Ryan says “You two are…” and Kris starts to go forward, but he’s safe.
\nNext are Lil and Michael together. Ryan says that Kimberly Locke and Jennifer Hudson both sang “Heatwave’ and ended up in the bottom three, but Lil is safe tonight. Michael is in the bottom three, as expected.
\nI’m shocked that Matt is in the bottom three. Seriously. Althought someone has to be in the bottom three. I doubt very much that he’s going home. I think Matt’s going all the way to the Top 5.
\nBefore we find out who joins Matt and Michael, Joss Stone and Smokey Robinson perform. And I have to sit through more stupid Mark’s Pizzeria commercials, which don’t make me want to eat their pizza, that’s for sure.
\nSmokey and Joss sing “You’re the One For Me”. OK, I have to just say that I’m weired out a bit by these duets by older artists with young girls. I know it’s just performing, but it’s a little creepy to watch Smokey Robinson and Joss Stone singing “You’re the one for me” and making goo goo eyes. Last week’s Carrie Underwood and Randy Travis duet was great but gave me the same feeling.
\nOK, so Ryan is going to tell us who joins Matt and Michael after the break.
\nAllison is up, and she’s safe.
\nEven though Megan is sitting next to Allison, Ryan goes to the other end of the couch and tells Anoop he’s safe. Interesting. Could it be Megan is in the bottom three?
\nDanny is up next, and obviously he’s safe.
\nSo that leaves Scott and Megan. Scott is in the bottom three. Rats. That is just not the way that should have gone down. Megan really needs to go.
\nRyan asks Randy which person shouldn’t be up there, and Randy says Matt, but Ryan sends Scott back to the couch. Wow. If Matt goes home that’s going to be a total shocker. Even DialIdol.com,<\/a> which uses the busy signals on calls to vote to make predictions, had Matt coming in at worst in seventh place, leaving him out of the bottom three.
\nRyan asks Simon what they’re thinking in terms of the judges’ save, and he says they’ll make the final decision based on the contestant’s performance.
\nBefore we find out who’s going home, Stevie Wonder performs a medley of his hits. I love Stevie Wonder. Over on the contestants’ couch everyone is rocking and partying to the songs. But Matt and Michael are bit more subdued, over on the other side of the stage all by themselves. Oh no, he didn’t – in the middle of the song he says, “I love you Barak Obama!” Enough with the talk about the Christian contestants. How about the Obama shout outs? Yeesh.
\nOK, so let’s see who’s going to “sing for survival?” It’s Michael; Matt is safe. He doesn’t even need to sing again; just tell him they’re not using the judges’ save. I admit he sings well, but he’s just not the next American Idol. Paula and Kara are dancing their little hearts out as he sings. When Ryan asks the judges they actually say they haven’t decided, so they’re polling each other! As if there was any question? The guy’s been in the bottom three two weeks in a row. Simon makes a managerial decision and sends him home. It’s not a bad gig; he’s going home to his family and he gets to go on the Idol tour this summer. And I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up releasing an album on a Christian label at some point.
\nWell there you have it! We’re down to the Top 9.
