Will Adam’s over the top show finally be too much for viewers? Did Anoop step up his game enough to stay another week? Did Danny offend the non-Christian viewers with his song choice? Did Kris melt enough female hearts to stay? Do we want to see Scott surprise is in coming weeks without the piano? Will Lil’s fans forgive her horrible country performance? Will Alexis get another chance to “dirty up” her performance? Is Matt a solid contender? How long before Allison is the last girl standing? And will Megan go back to her normal annoying singing once she’s over the flu?
Let’s find out!

8:58 pm: I hate that the results show is on at 9 pm. I’m tired and while I usually enjoy watching chefs argue, I didn’t need to sit through “The Chopping Block” to get to the results. And David won’t switch the station … grrr … 8:59 … give me the remote … thanks!!
9:00 here we go! One contestant is going home, and Ryan opens with an ominous “results that may shock you”; could that mean that Lil is going home? That’s the only shocker I can think of. Hmm, I told KBRT radio host Rich Buhler tonight that I hoped the save went unused this season and I stand by that, no matter who goes home. Sometimes the earlier a singer gets out, the better off he is.
But back to the show. Ryan reminds us about the judges’ save and gives us a recap of last night’s performances. Watching the performances again, I really think Kris Allen pulled ahead of the pack, but we have some really talented singers in the competition this season.
But before we find out who goes home, the group performs a rousing rendition of “Trouble,” with Scott MacIntyre on the piano. Wow, when they’re all together like that it’s really apparent how much the girls are outnumbered.
During the break we see Kristen McNamara’s audition. I’m sorry. I think that girl can sing and because she got hooked at the hip to the drama team on Hollywood week and then a gain to Nathaniel in the semi-finals she didn’t get a fair shot from viewers. Just my opinion.
While they’re watching the Ford commercial, Ryan chucks a water balloon at Simon and it goes over his head and into the audience. Oops!
Let’s go the behind the scenes look at last week’s elimination and how the Top 11 reacted. It’s nice to see the judges talk to Jasmine and Jorge and see how much everyone really cared about each other. Awww. So who’s joining them? Michael tells a story about his 3 1/2 year old daughter Makenna, who asked him why he doesn’t want to be home with her right now, so Ryan gives him a chance to shout out to the kids on live TV. Megan sheds some tears in sympathy, and they show video of everyone during rehearsals wearing masks because of her flu.
But enough chatter. On to some results:
Danny is up first, and he’s through.
Lil Rounds is next and she’s through. Hmmm, so what’s the shocking result?
Anoop is up, and he’s safe.
Allison and Michael are both called next. I’m predicting Michael’s going home. Ryan asks Paula who she thinks is in the bottom three and she says she can’t really answer while Simon keeps saying “Answer the question, answer the question”. And of course, Paula adds her positive affirmation about whoever goes home is OK because home is a new place, blah blah. And …. Allison is in the bottom three! Whoa, even she’s shocked. Whoa, and Michael is ALSO in the bottom three! Ok, that’s not a shocker. I expected that.
But who’s the third? I’m going to predict Alexis. We’ll find out after the break and some performances by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood.
I don’t know much about country music so I defer to my darling husband David who confirms my thought: Brad Paisley’s performance isn’t that great. I’d say it’s downright boring. If he was competing tonight I’d predict he would be in the bottom three. Hey, he’s short, like Ryan! Maybe Ryan should wear a big old cowboy hat so he could look a bit taller.
We’re back to see who is the third member of the bottom three. Alexis and Adam are the last two sitting in the row so that’s a clue.
Scott’s up and he’s safe. He’s so sweet. I’m so glad he’s going through.
Megan is up and she’s safe. Sick but safe.
Matt’s next and he’s safe.
Kris is up and he’s through, too. The girls are screaming.
And now we’re to Alexis and Adam. I’m guessing it’s Alexis but it would be a shocker if it was Adam. And Ryan did say the results were shocking. Ryan asks Simon if he wants to change his comments about Adam’s performance, and Simon says it was even worse watching it again. Ryan asks Randy who he thinks is going through, and he says Allison … errr, he meant Alexis. And it’s Alexis in the bottom three.
So right now Allison, Alexis and Michael are in the bottom three. Ryan sends Allison back to safety, leaving exactly what I predicted: either Michael and Alexis is going home. (That’s no shocker, Ryan.) We’ll find out which one after Carrie Underwood and Randy Travis sing.
Oh, they’re performing together; this is the first time they’ve done this duet live. If there’s one thing that’s for sure: Carrie Underwood is an amazing performer. She was born to do this. It’s a little weird watching Randy Travis sing a love song with her, because he’s so much older, but you can see how amazed even his is by her voice. I don’t love pop country, but I love this kind of country.
Ryan is back to the final two, and asks Simon if the judges would consider using the judges’ save on one of the final two. Surprisingly, he says yes, they would consider it on one of them. But which one, I wonder? I don’t think either of them should be saved, but I’m guessing they’d use it to save Michael. They love him, for whatever reason. I guess we’ll find out; if Alexis is going home and they don’t use it.
If they only get one the whole season, why not wait until it’s a contestant that really has a chance to win? I mean, next week Allison could end up on the chopping block, and she definitely can outsing Alexis and Michael put together.
And the contestant going home is … Alexis. Whoa, Simon says she was the one they were thinking about saving, and it all comes down to her performance. Can she wow the judges? Did she just forget the words? I think she’s trying too hard. I like her and would like to see her continue but I don’t think they’re going to save her, and it’s probably a good idea. It’s only one save for the whole season, after all. I hate this judges’ save. It’s double heartbreak on live TV.
I love seeing the change from mousy mommy to pop singer in her recap video, and I’m bummed she’s leaving.
Next week, the President has pre-empted the show, so Idol is on Wed. and Thurs.
MTV Features Gospel Soundcheck In A Story on American Idol
Gospel Soundcheck Featured in Associated Press American Idol Story
Is There Too Much Jesus On American Idol?
4 Reasons Why There Are So Many Christian Contestants On American IdolTension At The American Idol Judges’ Table: Is The Honeymoon Over?
American Idol’s Jamar Rogers and Frankie Jordan – BIG BIG NEWS!
American Idol Contestants With Ties to Christian Music – Round 2 & Updates
More on American Idol contestant Danny Gokey and wife Sophia
More American Idol Posts
And if you want more American Idol show recap, visit my Idol blog at NewChristianVoices.com.
MTV Features Gospel Soundcheck In A Story on American Idol
Gospel Soundcheck Featured in Associated Press American Idol Story
Get the Gospel Soundcheck headlines delivered daily to your email inbox.
