Tonight we see who American has chosen to move on as two contestants go home … or do we? Simon said they have a surprise twist in the judging that they’ll reveal tonight, and he said American might not like it.
If American is voting, I’m predicting that Jasmine and Megan or Michael are going home. i think Jasmine has a lovely voice but probably not the fan base some of the other singers have. If the judges have a say in the results, they’ll probably keep Megan and Michael and send Anoop home.
Thanks for joining me for the results show, with special guests Kelly Clarkson and Kanye West. Oh wait … Idol is on at 9 tonight? Great. I guess I’ll watch “The Chopping Block” while I wait.
OK, and we’re off!

Tonight’s a double elimination and the judges are introducing a new rule. The twist? The judges’ “save” – the judges can save a contestant from elimination just once and the week they use the save no one goes home; the next week, two people go home. And the decision to save a contestant has to be unanimous.
That’s BALONEY. The show is all about America voting for who they want. The judges already had their chance to send through the contestants they liked and we hated. So now it’s our turn. I hate this stupid twist. Just give us American Idol. We don’t need new judges or twists or second chances. Trust me. Sometimes it’s to the contestants benefit to get out of there earlier than later.
We get a peek at the mansion where the contestants are living, complete with all the superstar amenitites, like pools and a bowling alley. I hope they don’t let all of that luxury go to their heads.
Tonight, the contestants perform a medley of Michael Jackson songs, complete with a little break out dance from Danny Gokey. They do a nice job and look a lot more relaxed on stage than they did last night, that’s for sure. The big question: how does Scott manage the choreography? You’d never know he can’t see; is someone charged with guiding him around the stage?
The recap from last night is a good reminder that there are some really, really good singers in the competition this season, no matter what happens tonight.
Michael’s up first and he’s safe, as expected.
Allison is next; safe, of course.
Jasmine? Ryan calls her to the center of the stage and has her wait.
Matt’s up and is flustered, and starts to walk to the center of the stage. But nope, he’s safe.
Kris Allen is up and from the crowd reaction he’s not going anywhere; but Ryan has him stand there while Megan stands up. Kris is safe – no worries there – but Megan goes to stand with Jasmine. Megan is safe, and Jasmine is going home.
So I guess the new judging twist includes another performance while the judges decide if they want to save her. She does another great job with “I’ll Be There,” but the judges decide to send her home.
That whole new judging process is ridiculous; it only prolongs and then doubles the pain of getting voted off because you get rejected twice in one night. Poor Jasmine. She’s such a talented young lady. I hope she doesn’t give up.
So I called Jasmine going home tonight and missed Megan and Michael. So who’s the second person? Jorge? Anoop? Alexis? Before we find out, we have to … er, I meant get to, yeah, that’s what I meant … watch Kanye West perform. And of course, we have another commercial, and Kelly Clarkson still has to perform. So I still have time to get a snack. Yeah! Toasted blueberry Pop Tart!
Nope,we’re back!
Ryan calls Scott; he’s safe.
Alexis is next; she’s safe.
Danny Gokey is up next, and we all know he’s safe. And he is.
Anoop is next; and the loveable Anoop Dog is sent to the center stage.
Adam Lambert is up; and we all know he’s safe.
Jorge is up. Ryan also has Lil stand up. But it’s Jorge joining Anoop at center stage. So who’s going home? I’m guessing Jorge, and I don’t think the judges will save him. My David thinks it’s Anoop. And we’re not going to find out until after the break and Kelly sings. Good, my Pop Tart is done.
Ryan says that every week they’re going to bring back a former Idol and what better way to start than with the original. Or the Idol with the latest album to promote. She’s singing a song called “My Life Would Suck Without You.” I once got yelled at by a leader at Teen Community Bible Study because I said, “That sucks” in front of the kids. I actually got yelled at in front of the kids. And I was an adult.
But I digress. Here’s the big question: if Kelly Clarkson was competing this season, would she get sent home tonight? I think she’d stay but Simon would comment on her appearance.
After this break we’ll find out who’s going home, because we all know the judges would not be unanimous on a save for either Anoop or Jorge.
And the loser is … Jorge is going home. I called it, eh? He’s going to sing while the judges deliberate: should they save him? I’m confused. Do the judges only get one save for the whole rest of the season, or one per contestant? Like, if they saved Jorge they can’t save him again? The way Ryan just said it sounds like one for the whole season? It doesn’t matter because they didn’t save him anyway. I like his voice and he’s so sweet but there are some serious contenders in this competition this season.
So there you have it. Jasmine and Jorge go home tonight. What do you think? Did they deserve to go home? And what about this “judges’ save” twist? Good idea or bad?
And a quick “Hi” to Gil; we had a lovely chat on the phone today and we both were wrong about who went home. Oh well, there’s always next week!
MORE AMERICAN IDOL POSTS
Tension At The American Idol Judges’ Table: Is The Honeymoon Over?
American Idol’s Jamar Rogers and Frankie Jordan – BIG BIG NEWS!
American Idol Contestants With Ties to Christian Music – Round 2 & Updates
More on American Idol contestant Danny Gokey and wife Sophia
More American Idol Posts
And if you want more American Idol show recap, visit my Idol blog at NewChristianVoices.com.
Get the Gospel Soundcheck headlines delivered daily to your email inbox.
