{"id":2460,"date":"2013-01-28T05:17:05","date_gmt":"2013-01-28T10:17:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/godonomics\/?p=2460"},"modified":"2012-11-11T16:47:56","modified_gmt":"2012-11-11T21:47:56","slug":"self-indulgence-or-self-sacrifice-which-way-do-we-live","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/godonomics\/2013\/01\/self-indulgence-or-self-sacrifice-which-way-do-we-live.html","title":{"rendered":"Self Indulgence or Self Sacrifice:  Which Way Do We Live?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Samson was a man addicted to his appetites of anger, lust, and self indulgence. \u00a0 I got to visit his hometown last October. \u00a0Sadly Samson<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/godonomics\/files\/2012\/11\/s1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2461\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/201\/2012\/11\/s1-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>died with so much undone. \u00a0 In an incredibly last minute restoration by God of his strength, He was able to finally fight for his people against the evil, rebellious Philistines. \u00a0 \u00a0 Samson is buried up on the mountain he lived on. \u00a0To the left is a photo of a &#8220;dollhouse version&#8221; of his tomb carved into a rock up on the mountain he lived on.<\/p>\n<p>After spending years indulging in selfish pursuits with Philistine woman, including Delilah and a woman from the town of Timnah, he finally begins to live for others.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, \u00a0it took his own enslavement, blindness, and pain to finally open his eyes to God&#8217;s grace for his rebellion. \u00a0It wasn&#8217;t until he felt the pain of Philistine cruelty himself that he was compelled to help others.<\/p>\n<p>To the right is a photo showing the view from the mountain where Solomon lived. The lower country<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/godonomics\/files\/2012\/11\/s2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2462\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/201\/2012\/11\/s2-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>is where the Philistines lived.\u00a0That means that he could see them most of the time. The cruelty was right in front of him daily and yet he refused to engage. \u00a0 Christians need to engage in the hurt and pain all around them. God is calling us all to help those who are hurting and speak up against evil in it&#8217;s many forms.<\/p>\n<p>Solomon spent his life in self-indulgence until he finally learned the power of self sacrifice.
